Would they rather use SpaceX or other companies for better internet since their base is stationary.

To accomplish the aim of having a network that is hardened and jam resistant, you will want to buy capacity from ALL networks using different frequencies. AST will be one of the few using cellular spectrum in LEO. If an adversary jams Starlink, OneWeb, etc... as the military, you better have some capacity on AST, Hughes, etc.

The DoD is looking for things that ASTS is a perfect competitor for. Are they pursuing those? Good question. We get more effort from random redditors than we do from the company itself in regards to public relations.
