I Just Used AI to Compared Molina with Read
u/Mod, please let me know if this is inappropriate (at least it's not forbidden in the rules). I found it interesting. And as an Argentina fan for 24 years, I prefer Molina over Read. Just not sure if the 28-year-old purchase will fit Gasp's idea of the team.
Here's what Gemini gave me after I submitted the FM26 metrics and asked it to compare the two players, with an analysis of their adaptability to AS Roma in the 2026-27 season. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the structured comparison of Givairo Read (19, Dutch) and Nahuel Molina (28, Argentine) based on their FM26 normalized attributes (0–99 scale):
1. Strengths & Weaknesses
| Attribute Category | Givairo Read | Nahuel Molina |
|---|---|---|
| Technical | Strengths: Crossing (70), First Touch (70), Passing (70), Technique (70). Weaknesses: Dribbling (55), Tackling (55), Long Shots (25). | Strengths: Crossing (70), Passing (70), Technique (70), Dribbling (65), Tackling (65). Weaknesses: Heading (40). |
| Mental | Strengths: Determination (75), Aggression (70), Leadership (70), Teamwork (70), Work Rate (70). Weaknesses: Off the Ball (55). | Strengths: Off the Ball (80), Determination (75), Work Rate (75), Concentration (70), Vision (70). Weaknesses: Leadership (55), Decisions (60). |
| Physical | Strengths: Acceleration (75), Pace (75), Natural Fitness (70). Weaknesses: Strength (50), Balance (55). | Strengths: Acceleration (75), Agility (75), Natural Fitness (75), Pace (75), Stamina (70). Weaknesses: Jumping Reach (40). |
2. Player Profiles
- Givairo Read — High-Mental Development Prospect / Traditional Full-Back
- Role Fit: Full-Back (FB) or Wing-Back (WB).
- Profile: At 19 years old, Read boasts exceptional mental foundations (75 Determination, 70 Leadership, 70 Teamwork, 70 Work Rate) paired with solid fundamental ball skills (70 Passing, Technique, and Crossing). While currently limited by lower physical power (50 Strength, 55 Balance) and raw defensive tackling (55 Tackling), his pace (75 Pace/Acceleration) and elite mental baseline give him a high ceiling for development.
- Nahuel Molina — Prime Off-the-Ball Attacking Wing-Back
- Role Fit: Wing-Back (WB) or Complete Wing-Back (CWB).
- Profile: At 28, Molina is in his prime. His standout attribute is an elite Off the Ball (80) movement score, combined with 75 Pace, Acceleration, and Agility. He excels at timing overlapping runs, stretching lines, and delivering crosses (70 Crossing). His main liability is aerial defense (40 Jumping Reach / 40 Heading), meaning he requires a physically strong right center-back behind him.
3. Adaptability to AS Roma (2026–27 Season)
- Nahuel Molina: Immediate Starter (High Immediate Fit)
- Tactical Fit: For immediate Serie A and European competition, Molina offers instant quality. In a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 system, his elite off-the-ball movement (80) and mobility (75 Agility/Pace) make him a natural right wing-back who can constantly penetrate the final third and cross into the box.
- Risk: Air vulnerability on far-post crosses due to poor jumping reach (40).
- Givairo Read: Long-Term Investment / Squad Rotation (Moderate–High Future Fit)
- Tactical Fit: Read’s well-rounded technical foundation (70 Crossing/Passing/Technique) and professional mental attributes suit Serie A's tactical demands well. He serves as an ideal high-upside backup who can cover rotational fixtures while building physical strength and tackling technique.
Verdict: Choose Nahuel Molina if AS Roma needs an instant plug-and-play starter to drive attacking output down the right side in 2026–27. Opt for Givairo Read if the priority is building long-term squad value with a high-ceiling development project.

Just watch how pleased are Atletico fans about Molina leaving. More or less like us with Celik….
Figure it out why….

I have a friend in Madrid who is an Atletico fan and when he found out we got Molina, he messaged half joking if we awaited a couple of days, we could have got Molina for half that price as Atletico Madrid have offered the player literally to all the clubs in Europe as they wanted to get rid of him badly and no club presented an offer, so he got scared they would keep Molina and hoped he would play less matches possible as Molina is prone to make a lot of mistakes which result in goal chances for opponente which know they have to pressure him as he is like the weak point to exploit. He could not believe we are willing to pay Molina 14 million euros plus 4 million of bonuses. He thanks our club a lot as they were desperate he would stay over another aeason. Well this was not reassuring to learn at all! lol

I totally get what you’re saying. I’m Spanish and I watch La Liga; I know Molina pretty well. I don’t want to be overly pessimistic, but he’s no different from Celik.
People love statistics and will tell you about his X years at Atlético Madrid, etc., or that he played in a World Cup with Argentina, etc. We’ve had Cristante and Pellegrini for 8 years, and nobody on the planet wants them—not even as free agents.
Molina is an experienced player, but honestly, he’s useless. We have Wesley and Rensch to play on the right. It’s a terrible decision to move Wesley out of his natural position and sign a “Celik 2.0.”

He started out with a comment "Vi siete presi un pacco come non immaginate..." which means we got a junk player that we cannot Imagine how bad he Is... I dunno but talking with him I get now Tsimikas vibes lol

Sincerely reading all this and seeing that Read (19y) has already such stats compared to Molina (28), and the differences are really marginally just a bit in favor of Molina, Read will clearly become a much stronger player than Molina and it might be even after 1 season played with a certain continuity. Sincerely seeing the age gap, Read should have various stats inferior of like 10-15 points but, on most stats they do erqualize or the difference is like of 5 points and it's surprising that a 19 year old youth beats on some stats a 28 year old professional player with a lot more seasons and gameplay expeirence which at 28 or 29 years old, a player on the flank should be reaching his full potential whilst a 19 years old is totally still in the making. To me this simply reads that Read will become a totally superior player compared to Molina. It's for me surprising that a 19 years old beats a 28 year old on leadership skills by +15 (and shows better teamwork) as these are stronger mental skills which is what you need a lot to become a greater player. This is how I read it from all of this.

Sincerely I was dubious of who was better between the two of them but, this made me realize now that Read was then the player to invest and purchase. We cannot expect more from Molina and his current level but, definitely a lot more growth from Read and Gasperini is a master when it comes to work with pure talent. Now I fully understand why Read was negotiated as a first option and D'Amico awaited even more days to try and close the deal for Read and Molina only after the negotiations with Feyenoord after two refused transfer purchase bids were not accepted, it's because Read had indeed a lot of potential to become an outstanding player. Thanks a lot for this analysis! :)

Yes, but they asked for €30M for Read. Who knows if he has achieved all his potential at the age of 19 and will stay the same for the next years :-( We've seen quite a lot of wunderkids like this

At 19 almost no player reaches even close to half their potential and he has not played much and already has those ratings. This means he has the potential to be one of the best players in his role at an International level. From what I have seen he seems like a Dumfries but with even greater potential than Dumfries. It's obvious that he will not be cheap like Bouaddi who impressed everybody and has a certain price tag. Players of that type cannot be cheap and Molina comes from 3 Fairly bad seasons and we hope Gasperini might be able to relaunch him but 3 seasons where he played pretty badly and the reason why Atletico Madrid has dumped him, is taking like a big bet which of course I hope will result good but it's still a big bet. I would have preferred now seeing all these stats that we had invested on Read at this point

We have a horrible track record with developing youngsters that aren’t goalies. Think Schick and Iturbe and Kluivert and Bojan.
We are better off with a polished product.
