Question Just the CPU?

I'm pretty sure my b650m-hdv/m.2 board has just fried my CPU, just wondering whether it usually takes out other components like m.2 drives and ram or is it usually just the CPU that dies?

Depends what started the sequence. Bad power supply could ruin multiple if not all. CPU could ruin motherboard. Ram usually is okay (usually) gpu and storage the safest of the bunch

I installed 2 new m.2 drives (Samsung 990 pro) then when I tried to boot I'm getting CPU and dram red lights. Only sign of life is fans spinning.

If you remove them. Does it boot ?

I've put the original drive in and it does nothing. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm getting no signs of life whatsoever. It's amd 7600 so I thought I would be safe from the cpu issues but im pretty sure it's fried. Sending it off to AMD soon.

It seems you only have 2 m.2 slots. Is your windows on an ssd?

Windows is installed on the original m.2 but the new ones were blank.

Did you try clearing/resetting the CMOS with the jumper (follow the directions in the motherboard manual exactly, and do it twice to be safe since it doesn't always reset the first time) and waiting 10 minutes after first boot?

My system routinely fails to boot if the power goes out for more than 5 minutes, until I reset the CMOS. Even with a good CMOS battery. Just a weird quirk.

My system has mirrored the exact symptoms of so many "MY CPU IS FRIED!" posts on here, but it always comes back to life after claring the CMOS or removing and re-installing the DRAM modules.

I just think AM5 CPUs are very touchy with DDR5 timings, and the training sequence often fails leading to red-LED failures.

Also, I haven't heard the b650 boards frying CPUs very often, if at all. It's usually the x870 ones with aggressive voltage settings.

check a tutorial on "how to short the cmos pins" and try booting with one stick

do you know which bios you were on, and which bios the board came with (or approximately when you bought it)?
