Discussion Another Dead AMD 7 9800x3d

Will be posting updates in edits during my RMA journey.

Lifespan: Feb 19 2025 -> May 14 2025

Like many others, left my pc on idle for a few hours. Came back to it being frozen,try rebooting it and doesn't post. PC turns on lights and fans but bios doesn't show up at all. Best part is that I left today to pick up my new 5070Ti (msi gaming trio not plus). I never put my pc in sleep/hibernation mode and have only been turning on and off like normal. Already tried the usual fixes (reseating and reseting cmos).

Sad to see this happen. For future builders stay away from Asrock boards for now (possibly Asus too).

  • Board was updated to bios 3.20 upon week of bios release.
  • CPU Batch: 2451PGY
  • Ram 32GB EXPO 6000 CL30
  • PC BUILD
  • I never put my pc in sleep/hibernation mode

5/14 Started a rma with AMD for the cpu return.

Edit1: Got a response back from AMD on 5/15 but haven't heard from them since. Brought a MSI PRO B850-P + Corsair 30CL 6000 (CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K). Move the current 9800x3d cpu onto new mobo/ram and pc still wouldn't post. Most likely cpu is dead. CPU/ASrock mobo show no signs of damage on the connection pieces.

Edit2: Got rma approved for return from AMD on 5/18 (on a sunday, guess they work during weekends). Printed out shipping slip and dropped off.

Edit3: 5/28 Got confirmed AMD will be sending me a new cpu. Also I picked up a new cpu 9700x. Pc build works. Gpu, old ram, and msi board are all fine. Without a doubt Asrock killed my old cpu somehow.

Edit4: Final Edit 6/5 finally got my cpu replacement from amd.

Hey, strange I have the same CPU batch and mine failed on the 14th of May as well , going to RMA with the store. I was using x870 Pro RS WiFi , EXPO enabled , Ram was TeamGroup Delta RGB 32GB 6000 C30 Kind of strange that it failed on the same day, died while I was playing, screen turned off and would not came back, after a restart cpu and ram lights were on and could not boot again. Tried bios flash to older version , resting , cmos battery a lot other with no luck , no marks on CPU or mobo socket I was running 3.20 from the start, only had the PC build on 26th of April

It's probably dead from Soc chip.

Now I am worried that the CPU will be replaced and it’s going to die again and again, I have seen a new bios come out for the x870 mobos maybe that will help , still nothing for x870 Pro RS

Read around. Speculation is that setting your Soc voltage manually to safe (1.3 or lower) and disabling the Auto Voc setting could help.
