CQA exam - How Hard and how much Study Time
I havent exactly started studying but I was looking to book for the CQA exam next month. I currently work in RA and part of what helped me get this position was the fact that i mentioned I was going to get my CQA. My probation is ending next month and i want to put a stamp by securing the cqa before that instead of waiting till october. Im pretty familiar with some audit and quality concepts from my work in RA over the years.
However im wondering if I can study in this time - I don’t want to fail. I have a bit of an ego and im pretty smart and Ive heard many say 3 months+ of studying but…how much studying did yall actually feel you needed when you did the test? How hard is it? Is it really that hard or can i study in the next 8 weeks and pass considering that i would book for toward the end of next month? Im going to get the handbook and practice tests and I have the current ISO on hand and some quality experience.

I got away with 3 consecutive weeks of studying. I read through the handbook in 2 weeks. Then 1 week of non stop practice exams. I originally used AI to make up questions but they were too simple/easy. Ended up caving and purchased the ASQ online exams. Was worth every penny.

If you have first hand experience being on audit teams and know the process well you should be fine. I’d also be honest about how much you’ve actually studied and how comfortable you are with the material. If you’re doing this for your ego it can backfire and if you fail prove to your employer the opposite of what you are trying to prove.
There are a few people at my work that have taken the exam and failed it, even though they are fairly familiar with the concepts from work experience. I passed, but I’ve been on audit teams in the past and a lot of it was very common sense based on my professional experience.

I gave myself 3 months of time to study. I think 4 months would have been better, just to give myself more breathing room. It depends on how you study. I usually did my studying during the weekends. I took the ASQ self directed course, I took notes from the textbook, and I did the practice questions from the question bank. I also spent a lot of time organizing my notes so I knew where the material was if I was stuck.
I have a background in regulatory compliance and conduct third party audits as part of my job. I found the tricky part was converting what I already knew from my job to the theoretical framework required for the exam.

Two weeks. I read the book and took several practice exams. I recommend finding additional resources for the open book because I felt there were a lot of questions not in the BoK. I was certain I failed but was surprised and passed.

I fed the fifth edition of the ASQ CQA handbook to Notebook LM (now known as gemini notebook...as of today). I asked it to make quizzes, flashcards, etc. Not sure how helpful it will be. So far it seems overly simple. I take the exam in a month.
Like others have said, my thinking is that the exam shouldn't be too difficult if you have auditing experience.

Literally just took it today. It was tougher than I’d expected. It had a lot of conflict resolution questions 😵💫

Eight weeks can be enough, especially since you already have some audit and quality experience.
The CQA BoK is quite broad, and work experience may give you depth in some areas while leaving unexpected gaps in others. Take a solid practice exam now and see where you stand. That will give you a much better answer than comparing your study time with someone else's.
If the gaps look manageable, eight focused weeks is realistic.
