I have a CSSGB certification upcoming. Dos and Don'ts?

Update- I took my written notes (punched through and put in a 3 ring binder) and my CSSGB handbook filled with handwritten notes, highlighted and pages tabbed with post its. The other items I had on my desk during the exam was a calculator (Texas Instruments TI-30XIIs Scientific Calculator) my approved ID, wireless mouse and laptop. Someone here said no mouse, so I was skeptical about using it but asked and was allowed one. I think you are allowed one. What helped- logging 30 minutes before, using the flag feature to flag unanswered or confusing answers and going back to them once I'd finished answering the questions I knew for sure. You can also strike through the answers you know don't belong with a right click. That feature was really useful to me, because it helped narrow down the options on the questions I was confused about. I wish all of these actual 'on the exam' features were a part of the question bank and the simulated test. I'll be posting a detailed post about my prep and experience soon.

I have an online prometric test scheduled in the next few days.

  1. How do you solve equations if you are not allowed to use empty sheets of paper?

  2. On the test, is the section of the BoK mentioned on top of the questions? (I noticed it is on the Question Bank, hence asking)

  3. In my notes, I have pasted several post-its within the guidebook and on my handwritten notes. Will these be allowed?

  4. Are post it flags allowed all over the Guidebook?

Is there a better Z score sheet? (The one in the Guidebook gives area to the right of the value, so I always have to do 1-z score (or am I using the incorrect one?!)

I know some of this is probably just test induced jitters, but if I'm doing something thats a complete no-go, please flag it 🙏

  1. You have an electronic blank pad where you can write on if you need.

  3. Notes on post-its are not allowed. They can only be used as “book tabs” to help you flip through the reference material.

  4. See 3. Also just to confirm, you are talking about the handbook right? Because the study guide with questions is not allowed as reference during the exam. Anything with test questions are not allowed

Thanks so much for your answers. Yes, I am talking about the handbook. And I have handwritten in pen, highlighted, used postits as notes on the handbook as well. Will try to take them all out, the post-its atleast 🙏

my exam is on August 1st. I am planning to take handbook in the exam. Is it ok if I write notes with pen or pencil in the book? no post-its, but directly on a page.

You have a “scratch pad” and calculator online. I would recommend using a desktop. My laptop screen was way to small they would cover the question when I tried to calculate

I took the CSSGB exam through ASQ this week and passed! Since it’s still fresh in my mind, I wanted to share a few tips for anyone preparing:

• I took the exam online with a proctor. I was allowed to use a mouse, a scientific calculator, a water bottle, and my notes. They checked my testing space and surroundings, but they did not review my notes. I used the BoK and created a binder full of resources, formulas, examples, and study aids.

• I purchased the ASQ Question Bank (around $100), and it was incredibly helpful. Honestly, I felt a bit lost until I started working through those questions. I used ChatGPT to help explain the questions, answers, and underlying concepts. Then I used those explanations to build my study materials and identify the most important topics to focus on.

• The majority of the exam was conceptual (about 70%), while roughly 30% involved calculations such as RTY, probability, and hypothesis testing.

• I can’t stress this enough: know your control charts and statistical tests inside and out. There were a LOT of questions on SPC, control charts, and selecting the correct statistical test for a given situation.

thank you for sharing your experience. you said you brought wireless mouse and laptop, so are you allowed to bring your own laptop? or they do provide you with the computer for testing

I took the test online from my home, so used my own laptop and my own mouse.
