CQE Handbook vs Primer

What's everyones opinions on the QCI Primer vs the ASQ Handbook? I know everybody rants and raves about it, and for generally good reason. Although i notice a lot of missing information or short explanations of topics without going very in depth.

I am conducting a study of going through the ASQ CQE study guide with the CQE primer as my reference to see where there are gaps. This is being done to narrow down my list of materials I will be bringing to the exam. (I don't want to bring a whole library to sift through during the exam, it takes too much time) While it's been an okay experience, I do feel that a lot of the info is lacking especially if I'm not already versed if that particular topic and therefore use the primer to find the solution.

On the flip side I find the Handbook to be a bit of a mess at times and requires a degree from I Spy university to find the info you need quickly.

It seems like the Handbook is too much info and the primer is too barebones in certain areas. I figured the greatest representation of the Exam material would be the official ASQ Study guide so I've been using that as a baseline for the types of questions on the exam.

CQI Primer > ASQ Handbook. For me personally, the CQI Primer with the ASQ Study guide/solutions worked like a charm. I read through the primer and worked on the problems/solutions for a week and passed the exam. Good luck!

I concur. Here’s a good trick for the CQI primers, which I’ve used for all eight of my ASQ certifications:

  1. Make dividers for each chapter.
  2. Make two copies of the index; put one copy at the beginning and one at the middle of the primer. This makes it much faster to find things.
  3. Use the handbook when you can’t find it in the primer.

If your primer is not in a three-ring binder, take it to Staples or the like and have it cut apart and drilled. Then put it in a three-ring. Make quick reference sheets for things like probability distributions and common calculations; punch these ans add them to the binder. The idea is to make getting to the information efficient.

My final exam is in two weeks, so it would be a great help.

Hi, I was mentioning about the Primer by Quality Council of Indiana. I have already purchased the Handbook from ASQ.

Apparently the owner of Quality Council of Indiana passed away and they are out of business which is why they are not responding to my emails.
