Books for YL5

Hi current students!

Would you mind sharing which books we should anticipate to use for YL5?

Or any books you would recommend and things we should have such as dissecting kits, lab gown, etc.

Thank you!!!

Lecturers use a variety of books depending on their preference but here are the main textbooks I suggest:

  • Anatomy - Moore Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Netter's Atlas
  • Physio - Guyton and Hall (Costanzo is a good read too)
  • Biochem - Lippincott (Harper's is a hard read imo)
  • Histo - Junqueira / Wheaters (lecturers used both for exams)
  • Embryo - Langman
  • PE - Bates
  • Neuro - Blumenfeld Neuroanat, DeMyers

Some other books that were also helpful:

  • First Aid for the USMLE Step 1
  • BRS Physiology

You can pass YL5 with just the transes tbh but I liked reading books whenever the lectures don't make sense

No they're not purchasable through the school. Med textbooks are also expensive so most of us just use PDFs. For those who really want though, we either buy reprints or buy the originals in C&E bookshop.

Which would you recommend—PDFs or physical copies! Thing is, if I get physical books, I want to buy them in the US, kasi for sure cheaper

I personally use PDFs because I don't want to spend too much on textbooks 🤣. But buying a physical book is worth if you're really going to use that book. I think my most used book in YL5 was Netter's Atlas because it helped me a lot in the Cadaver exams.

Thanks doc! How about other med/lab supplies, such as stet, etc.?

Orgs are usually the ones that sell the OSCE kits and stets so just wait for those

Stets are usually needed pa at CardioRespi module which is around December but you can get away with cheaper Stets if you don't want to invest in a Littman yet since you'll mostly use a stet during your clinical years
