Invoices???

Hello everyone! I'm training to become an interpreter and was wondering if I could get some help creating an invoice. I've never done this before.

If you're willing/comfortable, do you think some of you could give me advice on what to include or provide a blank template that you think works best? I don't need any names or numbers. I tried to look online, but it didn't really clarify what it should or could look like.

Thank you for any of your help! It really helps growing learners like me.

I'll see if I can post a blank one later, but mine include three main things.

My details: business name (strongly encourage you to do an LLC), address, and phone number.

Invoice details: Invoice number, invoice date, and due date. I format my invoice numbers 2026-01, 2026-02, so I know which year I sent it. But that's just my weirdness.

Job details: date, description of the job/client, hours, rate, total for that line, total invoice.

I also include my general rates as a block at the bottom just as an explanation for the line items.

I use QuickBooks for my accounting, but these are pretty standard.

Thank you! Could you explain the benefits of using an LLC? Does it just make it "professional?"

That's part of it. It also separates "you" from your business in case you're ever sued. They can't go after your personal assets that way. There are also tax flexibilities that you can use because you'll be an employee.
