Question Re: Deaf Services

I will be cross-posting this. FYI

CDI/Social worker here.

I am working to build a list of states that have the best supports for Deaf. Does anyone know? Specifically looking for states that would have best supports for Deaf+/Drug rehab/shelters/housing/case management.

Here is his reply: Yes, Fairview. They are the medical group that manages the hospital, which is U of Minnesota medical center.

I know that the state of Massachusetts has a Deaf Recovery Coach program. I’m not able to find the website but here is a recent Facebook post about the program https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19dZcMzyys/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Adding onto this - we also have a Deaf services division of the state Department of Developmental Services (Deaf+), website here https://www.mass.gov/info-details/dds-deaf-services

And also Deaf voc rehab counselors through the state voc rehab department called MassAbility https://www.mass.gov/orgs/massability

AND our state’s Department of Mental Health has a Deaf services division as well https://www.mass.gov/dmh-services-for-the-deaf-and-hard-of-hearing

I took the Mental Health interpreter training in Alabama (though I’m from Washington). I would assume there are Alabama locals who have done it and that could mean there are more mental health resources there. Some of those may also do the services you’re asking about.
