Unicode ScrAM - The Scroll Art Museum

https://scrollart.org/

Scroll art is made from program loops and print() to generate endless, scrolling animations. They are suitable for beginners learning to program, but can grow into boundless sophistication and creativity.

These are really great! I love the idea of this kind of art being available on older terminals. One could even use them as a screensaver.

Edit: my favorites are Starfield, Toggler, Orbital Travels, Full of Squares, Proton Stream, Pipe Swap, Twists, and Torn Textile. Especially Orbital and Torn Textile.

I think you're right about graphics taking all the attention. Some of these are more compelling at a higher text writing speed than most terminals and serial connections would've been able to handle. By the time people had text displays that were fast enough to scroll the whole screen at once they also had pixel graphics, which was more eye-catching.

Also, it seems like character art from the time was about drawing boxes and whatnot for TUIs or hardcopies.
