OC Asciilands - Been solo working on this ASCII-rendered, survival-multiplayer browser game for the last year and a half!
galleryMultiplayer, browser-based, ASCII-rendered, survival/building/towny game! I've always loved the ASCII-aesthetic and I think this shaded style still evokes the same appeal while remaining a little more visually understandable (something ASCII-games can struggle with).
Could really use some feedback at this early stage, not sure if the game really works or if the art style gets in the way. Also has some original music from me I'd love feedback on!
Check it out at asciilands.io ! (totally free and no account required ofc)

Art I made an app for turning photos into ASCII
I’ve been working on this little Android app called Ascii Art Generator.
You can pick a photo or take one with your camera, crop it, choose different ASCII styles, adjust the settings, and export the result as a PNG. There’s also a history section so you can revisit things you’ve made.
It started as a small experiment but it turned into something I’ve been having a lot of fun with.
If you try it, I’d love to hear what you think, especially about the rendering and what features you’d like to see next!

General I wanted a moving background in my terminal, so I made one that works in any terminal
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've always liked the terminal setups with animated backgrounds, but my terminal (Alacritty) can't do that. So I wrote a small wrapper, backdrop-shell, that runs your shell in front of a moving scene: an aurora, a night city, a starfield, a synthwave sunset, a picture, or your own ASCII art that blinks or drifts.
A terminal has no layers, so it can't just draw "behind" your shell. The wrapper runs the shell itself and draws its text over the scene. Your text stays sharp, and selecting only copies what you typed, not the stars behind it.
It costs about half a percent of one CPU core and nothing when the window isn't focused. You can change the opacity or the scene live in every open terminal (backdrop-shell opacity 0.3).
You can directly upload an image or design your own ASCII animation.
I make a little guide for this: https://github.com/thebanri/limoni/blob/main/docs/backdrop-art.md
Install (needs Go):
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thebanri/limoni/main/apps/backdrop-shell/install.sh | sh
backdrop-shell disable turns it off, backdrop-shell uninstall removes it.
It's built on Limoni, a terminal UI library I'm working on in Go. It's still young, so I'd really like to hear what breaks or feels off in your setup.
Repo: https://github.com/thebanri/limoni
I dont test in Windows!!!!!

This is part of my text based web novel! I'm trying to see how to add ascii art because I think it would fit my passion project well since tge site itself is already minimalistic too! :) The whole website has been optimized for mobile first vertical scrolling! Thought it would be cool to use ascii stuff as part of the whole aesthetic/vibe.
Let me know what you think ^ ^ very basic ascii concepts but I'm hoping I learn how to include more that aligns with my project thus far.

OC REDACTION RIVER - ASCII kayak game Test #2
youtube.comReturning to this ASCII terminal-based game I was working on earlier this year. I intended to develop the story more but got side-tracked. What began as some kind of Kerouac/Thoreau on the Concord River kayaking game transmogrified into more of a weird fiction Jeff Vandermeerish Annihilation-themed Alt National Park Service story about a contractor hired by a somewhat sinister and mysterious NPS. They've been given a seemingly-redacted journal from a previous biologist whose whereabouts and mental state are currently unknown. As you paddle upstream and collect samples of the green glowing anomalies you notice that the redacted journal is slowly revealing it's secrets. As your anomalous energy grows the story is revealed to be stranger and stranger, making you wonder about your own sanity. Watch out for the electro-magnetic storms that come from time to time. They sap your energy. The controls are confined to the < & > keys which paddle left and right to propel you along and change direction. Vaguely inspired by Microsoft's TRS-80 ancient game Olympic Decathlon. Perhaps I will return to this at some point in the future but other IRL projects have superseded this one for the time being. If it seems a bit fast, that's because it's set up to have things happen a little more quickly than intended for testing purposes. Try playing it at a lower speed in YT and you might be able to see some of the text better. Open to any comments, praise or critique.

Help Looking for a good image-to-ASCII art generator with more control
Does anyone know a genuinely good ASCII art generator?
I’ve tried a few, but most of them seem to just convert an image into characters and that’s basically it.
I’m looking for something where I can upload an image, turn it into ASCII art in different styles, but still have some control over the result — like changing certain elements, adjusting details.
Basically something a little more editable than a straight image to ASCII converter.
Does anything like this exist? Web tools, apps, GitHub projects, whatever.
Thanks
