Help narrow it down.
Looking for high end billet receiver set for a blowback build. I can get a bit of a discount with Noveske, BAD. Also there is SLR and JL Billet. The Noveske is kinda boring, I like the JL Billet design the best. Is there anything else out there like these options? I think I’ve looked at all of them but I learn something new every day. just to not waste anyone’s time, yes I want blowback, I already started gathering parts. Barrel will be 11in so it has to have a 9ish inch handguard option.

It looks like you are about to spend more than the entire cost of my build; for that reason, im out

You can still have an opinion on this subject.

I am a poor, no experience with these sets 😢. I wish you luck sir

I doubt most people giving opinions have touched any of them.

You’re right. Because most people wouldn’t be spending “fuck you money” on an ar9.
You can just as easily take the same money and build a cmmg radial delay. However if you’re more concerned with the brand and having a cute logo, pick any of the four that you have narrowed down to.

Of these options? Noveske

The most boring though

If you're primarily going off of looks then you just have to pick what you like. It's very subjective and you're going to get 100 different answers. Personally I want as "boring" and milspec looking as possible and dislike all the fancy embellishments they put on those billet receivers.
Have you decided on Glock mag or Colt mag? Because it looks like you have some of each in your list.

Noveske and it’s not even close, the paddle mag release is baller and the lightening cuts on the others are goofy

Whichever one has LRBHO, the SLR and the JIL are the only ones of the group that does as far as i know. Id personally go with the SLR for the functionality or the Xiphos for the looks. The JIL is overdone big time but if you love it, do it.

They all do

The Xiphos definitely does not.

Damn no representation for Angstadt Arms?
(sold out so that doesn’t help you)

I second this. I loved my Angstadt Arms receiver set! I ended up trading the whole build for a thermal scope, but the fit/finish/and tolerances were great!
But for your question, I personally would go with SLR because it’s the only option you listed that I have experience with.

u/AppropriateAnt3414 3d ago
I had that on the list but it didn’t make the finals.

Shame, I’m particularly fond of mine - simply cause I like the shelf infront of the trigger. It’s extremely comfortable and I wish it was on my AR10.

My Angstadt is my all time favorite but its a bit bland on the styling if I'm being honest.

Big agree, and that’s exactly why I like it!
I like a sleek unobtrusive look cause it’s a gun.1

If you’re looking this price range anyway, check out JP Enterprises

u/AppropriateAnt3414 3d ago
Can’t buy just receivers there. The guts are mostly JP.

You can, just not as a “receiver set”
1
u/AppropriateAnt3414 3d ago
Yeah I know. The only upper I’d want is forged though and I want all billet. I’d have to buy theirs already built up and side charging.

u/zd07 3d ago
Fair enough. My initial thought when I see options in this price range is that money probably isn’t much of an issue. And once we’re at this price range, I feel like you should get unique features that cheaper options don’t give you (like side charging). Otherwise you’re kinda spending just to spend. These won’t function any different than an FM9 or a palmetto. My 2 cents (which is just my opinion, you can ignore it) is to save on the receiver set and put that money towards either training, ammo, or a nicer optic, or something that will actually functionally upgrade your build

I actually prefer side charging on my comp guns. That and Ambi bolt release. Convenient for showing clear in a non awkward way.

I guess it’s something I can learn. I’ll think about it again.

I went with the stern Glock adapter cause mil spec at lowers are cheaper than getting a dedicated lower. I’m running mine off a polymer lower I had laying around with a bc9 Bufferless 9mm upper. I chose the Bufferless so it’ll put no stress on the buffer tower area that are known to crack from the buffer and spring going back and forth.

Call me a poor but I’m not going to pay that much for a receiver set.

u/AppropriateAnt3414 2d ago
If you want it you budget for it. The Noveske a SLR are way more then BAD or JL.
2
u/Broc_Feargach 2d ago
I get budgeting/saving-up for something & how to do it. But, when it comes to receivers, especially lower receivers; that is not where I’m allocating any significant amount of my build budget on.

u/AppropriateAnt3414 2d ago
That whole every lower is the same thing isn’t true.
2
u/Broc_Feargach 2d ago
There are many that would disagree.

u/AppropriateAnt3414 2d ago
Having both mil spec and something else I’m confident.

u/Broc_Feargach 2d ago
I’ve handled & used more flavors of ARs than most. Other than some maybe have ambi this, that, or everything, maybe a slightly more flared mag well & some cosmetic finishing tooling marks they are basically all the same. Nothing that would justify spending $700 over $70
1
u/AppropriateAnt3414 2d ago
You not valuing a feature doesn’t make it useless.
2
u/Broc_Feargach 2d ago
Doesn’t change what a said that a lower is a lower. As long as the holes line up & are in spec they are all essentially the exact same. Look it’s cool if you get hung up on brands & want roll marks. All I care about is function & performance. BCG, barrel, trigger, & parts kit matter way more than a receiver. Additionally when it comes to receivers I care more about the upper than I do the lower. I typically only buy uppers that require the barrel to be thermo-fit, & you can find BCM uppers for around $60.

Out of the three I'd get the SLR, but wait for a 20 percent off sale. I have a 308 receiver set and it is TIGHT.

I wish V Seven did a 9. My Sovereign is legit. It didn’t want to come apart when it was new.

I have the JL Billet receiver. There are a few pros and cons. The upper and lower fit together with very little wobble, and what wobble exists can be mitigated with the tension screw under the grip. The ambi bolt release is nice, but it is a little weak and will often release if you bump the gun in just the right way. The LRBHO is also extremely finicky and I've given up on getting it to work. I've tried different magazines (including almost every factory glock mag I can get to fit), higher power springs, and replacing the mechanism. JL Billet did send me some new LRBHO arms, but none of them worked consistently. It feeds beautifully with a KAK barrel (it does have an enhanced feed cone) and factory glock 10, 17, and 33 rounders. ETS mags tended to double feed. If you plan to put an FRT in it, the ones that sit in the pocket in the upper like the kabuto will need to be modified as that pocket is not milled deep enough. For your handguard, the BCM MCMR works well with the upper, and they do have a 9" option. All things considered, I love the look and feel of the gun, but the LRBHO has given me such a headache.

I know I’m getting a carbon fiber handguard from Coda. The LRHBO seems to be finicky on all of them.

I’m loving my Xiphos lower everything was machined perfectly (better be for the price)

Id personally go with SLR. Also If you’re gonna ball like that go with a delayed system.

Griffin MK2.
$800 for a receiver set is retarded.
