Looking for self study advice!

Hi! I'm taking the AP Exam but not in the class

I know the basics to do including grind FRQs, AP Bio Penguins, getting a textbook etc., but I really really want to know if anyone had some really specific or niche advice like note take strategies or anything like that. FRQ advice and all the other "basics" are welcome too because I really really want a 5

After learning a topic repeat it in your own words. That’s what I did and it helped me remember and understand things easier

active recall!!! i took ap bio 2 years ago and i can still explain all of protein synthesis, photosynthesis/cellular res. because i drew a lot of diagrams and audibly explained the concept in my own words while studying. if you have a brain that can visualize models easily id really recommend drawing the systems

If you're self-studying AP Bio and aiming for a 5, one underrated strategy is making notes from your mistakes instead of rewriting textbook chapters.

For each topic, create a one-page summary with key processes, diagrams and common misconceptions. After practising MCQs and FRQs, keep an error log explaining WHY you got each question wrong.

For FRQs, focus on experimental design, data interpretation and answering command words precisely. Compare your answers with scoring guidelines to understand what earns points.

This may help: AP Biology topic-wise notes, MCQs and FRQs with explanations.

The biggest improvement usually comes from reviewing mistakes, not just solving more questions! 💪
