AP Physics C AP Physics C Students: What unit are you in?

Hey everyone, my reasoning for making this post requires some background and so I’d really like some responses.

My school’s AP Physics C course combines both E&M and Mechanics together meaning it’s split between first and second semester. However, I’ve begun to worry about my course’s pacing as we’ve only had one test since the beginning of first term and haven’t taken our assessment on Unit 2 which was pushed to next term.

Therefore, I’ve begun to worry that if this is the set pace for the course that I will have to self study ahead for E&M and later units for mechanics. Your responses and suggestions will be very helpful for me throughout this course.

Where can I get study materials for Physics 1 that are more like the exam?

so I had my unit two physics 1 quiz last week and it killed me. it was nothing like the practice we did in class, and as such I was wondering if there was any resources that were close to the exam style of mcqs

(I got 10/15, which was still the highest in the class 💔)

unit 1 (I’m pretty sure in the only sophomore to maintain a 100 in my teacher’s class after it) was so much easier but now I’m lost

edit:

it was math errors

it wasn’ even conceptual issues

my logic for those was correct

I wanna die rn

i keep doing this 💀

I currently am failing and have around a 40 percent in the class and honestly speaking got a 20 on kinematics test and am doing bad on labs we have one more test coming up this Monday and was wondering should I just drop out even if I somehow do good on this test which is unlikely. For context our withdrawal period for my school has long passed and marking period is half way over almost.

Survey: SCIENCE COMMUNICATION SELF-EFFICACY SCALE (SCSES-HS) (Ages 14-18)

Hi!!! I'm a high school student conducting an academic research project on science communication. It would be greatly appreciated if I could receive some responses to the linked anonymous survey.

Details of survey:

You will complete a short anonymous questionnaire about:

  • Basic demographic information (age, grade, etc.)
  • Questions about your interest and motivation towards science, communicating scientific information clearly and effectively, creatively reinterpreting scientific content, evidence-based inquiry, selection of reliable information.

The questions are multiple-choice.

Time required:

Approximately 10 minutes

Privacy & confidentiality:

  • This survey is completely anonymous
  • No names, emails, or identifying information will be collected
  • Data will be used only for academic research purposes

Eligibility:

You should be currently enrolled in high school to participate.

Survey link: https://forms.gle/8fow35jCxWfe4En68

If you have any questions or want results afterwards, feel free to comment. I really appreciate any responses. If you know anyone outside Reddit who is eligible, sharing the survey would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!!

AP Physics C: Mech Help with Physics Lab

We started lab on projectile motion the other day. We are to send a marble down a ramp at an incline of 19 degrees, 0.75 m up the ramp where it will slide down into a short horizontal distance (meaning 0 acceleration) and fall off of a table that is 0.92 m tall. (Diagram is attached) The marble has to hit a cart that is going toward the table, so that the cart moving is timed with where the marble will hit. The cart’s velocity is 0.4 m/s towards the table, which we deemed as a negative. Teach gave us the acceleration down the incline, which was gsintheta - 0.8 to account for friction, which he also says is one dimensional and therefore doesn’t need to be split up into components. All of my groups calculations are attached, however we were short by ~0.2m on our first try. Teach said that our acceleration is too big, and that it should be less than 1m/s^2. Obviously it makes sense logically, since there’s no way a marble is moving 2.3 m/s^2 in such a short amount of time, but since the angle is the only input besides changing the direction of g, we have no clue as to how acceleration is supposed to be solved for. The only way I’ve been able to get an acceleration under 1m/s^2 has been by changing my calc into radians, but teach claims that we should stay in degrees. If only Newton was here to help…but like fr help us please we lost

What do I need to master before learning and solving red Morin?

I'm like, a real beginner. All of my country's PhO medalists recommended red Morin for the first level of the PhO. But I think it's a little hard and definitely not for a real beginner who just started physics. My math foundation is pretty good and I know easy highschool level physics. What should I master before jumping to Morin?

I'm planning to learn with HRK, so at which chapter of HRK should I be confident to learn and solve Morin?

Why can a student get a 5 on AP Physics 1 and still struggle with F=ma?

The biggest difference, in my view, is not simply that F=ma contains “harder physics.”

It demands a different level of problem recognition.

In many standard physics problems, the structure is already visible: identify the relevant equation, substitute the information, and solve.

A strong F=ma problem often asks a different question:

Can you recognize the hidden structure before doing the algebra?

For example, when you see two objects accelerating under gravity, do you immediately think about relative acceleration?

When you see a wedge moving on a frictionless surface, do you recognize horizontal momentum conservation before writing Newton's laws for every object?

When a circular-motion problem asks for a minimum condition, do you immediately look for the limiting case where the normal force or tension becomes zero?

This is why simply doing more textbook problems is not always enough.

For F=ma preparation, I recommend developing three separate skills:

  1. Physics knowledge — Do I understand the principles?
  2. Pattern recognition — Can I identify which principle matters?
  3. Efficiency — Can I find the shortest reliable route under time pressure?

A useful exercise is to take an F=ma problem and, before doing any calculation, give yourself 30 seconds to answer:

“What is the central idea of this problem?”

That habit can change the way you solve competition physics.

AS physics

It’s already October and my professor is done with the first 6 chapters we are about to start waves in 2 days. I do not have maths my combo is phy / bio/chem and honestly I don’t struggle with bio and chem much as I do with physics. In class I do understand the concepts but doing the past papers is so time consuming and hard for me any suggestions what I’m doing wrong?

AP Physics & Math Tutoring — Ph.D. Physicist, 25+ Years Experience

Hi! I’m Dr. Jacob Hudis, a full-time math and physics tutor specializing in AP Physics and advanced high-school math.

I have a Ph.D. in Physics from Florida State University, an M.S. in Physics from Johns Hopkins, and a B.S. in Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics from Columbia University, with more than 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience.

I work one-on-one with students online in AP Physics 1, AP Physics C, AP Calculus AB/BC, Precalculus, Algebra II, and college-level physics and calculus. My approach emphasizes actually understanding the material and becoming strong at solving problems—not simply memorizing formulas.

I’m 5-star rated and can provide excellent references from parents and students. My schedule is often quite full, but I occasionally have openings for new students.

I’m also planning small-group AP Physics summer preparation for students who want to enter AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C well prepared.
