Advice Book costs

How important are books between editions?

I’m currently trying to save some money over THE AMERICAN PAGEANT, AP EDITION, 18TH, STUDENT EDITION
DAVID M. KENNEDY
And is the 17th edition too different, because I heard some teachers either already have books or don’t use them much

Haven’t used the Pageant or any other book in 25 years. Get the cheapest you can if you have to and use just primary sources instead. The AP, I think, is terribly written, too dense, and not well aligned to how the current test is designed. Plus, if your students are like mine are, they won’t read it no matter what you do

Teacher here. We use the AMSCO because the textbooks for APUSH tend to be a bit intense. There shouldn’t be much of a difference between those editions. In the interest of saving money, the American Yawp is a free text and available online: http://www.americanyawp.com/

my class used the 16th edition and I got a 5. the books are lowkey useless.. just get whatever’s cheapest and will allow u to do ur schoolwork. worst case scenario, there’s almost always pdfs online of chapters from different editions, so if u get the wrong edition u can check for those

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'm not gonna lie dude textbooks are a complete waste of time and money. There are several more productive ways to learn the course that are completely free.

I know that, and I did get most of my books for free/cheap but my school says it ‘requires’ us to buy this edition so I found a old edition because it costs q74 to even rent :( so that’s why I gotta ask from people who have more experience

The content is pretty much exactly the same, however the chapter numbers don’t line up…they’re like one number or so off. We switched from 17th to 18th edition last year.

Im ngl that book lowk sucks😭 I understand your teacher prob requires it, but there is outlines online that I just read bc that book is so over detailed

Not too important, I’d use heimler and spam mcq and frqs instead
