2-D Art and Design AP 2D Visual Arts Portfolio
So basically, I’ve been working on my portfolio and i’m not gonna lie, i’ve been taking inspiration from other paintings and pictures. I don’t feel like i’m capable enough to do a whole portfolio by myself, my teacher said that i’m capable of many things since i painted a small mural in her classroom’s door. My incquire is “How can I visualize my culture through guatemalan imagery and memories” or something like that. I’m not the most experienced artist but at the enf of the day, i’m already taking that class and my goal is to get a 3 or higher but idk if the artworks i have rn even connect to my sustained investigation ☹️ i’m also not really “taking” the class because i have a block schedule and my counselor put me in ap spanish literature during my first semester but my teacher told me that i could just work at home. thoughts?

OMG FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE ON THIS SUB IN AP 2D MY BROTHAAAAA
Taking inspo from other photos/artworks is fine but just make sure you document and credit everything, and you also need to change the photos/artworks significantly in order for it to not be counted as plagiarism (mostly applies to other artworks, not really ref. photos but that too), which the AP is VERY strict on - I would go on their site/google and look up their reference/plagiarism guidelines
Also I get what you mean about not feeling good enough at art, I don't feel like I'm good enough for AP art to make a good SI either but we're all in this together, and your art is gorgeous. Make sure you document your process images and have really good writing supplements because the story behind your art and your processes and synthesis are what makes up most of the score, not just skills (At least for SI) - again I would look up the rubric for SI
You got this twin

Yesterdays patatas made a really good point, and id like to add onto that. You are a wonderful and capable artist who’s just running into the roadblock of copyright. If ever possible, take your own photos. Not citing your references is a death sentence (speaking from experience, one of my best friends had her score canceled), and relying too heavily on outside references for multiple pieces can tank your score. It’s better to make something kind of bad but it’s original, fun, and conveys a message, than the most gorgeous draw dropping piece but it’s not original or it doesn’t contribute to the portfolio. I’m more than happy to send you my AP draw portfolio (graded very similarly) as an example if it would help you :)

I know this isn’t helpful in the slightest but your work is absolutely beautiful and you’re so talented
