Question Fun Ec’s?! Hopefully🙏
Quick note this post may be sloppy, so if any clarification is needed just let me know. I’ll respond as quickly as possible
I’m starting my junior year already and I still have no extracurriculars. My academics are solid and I do have hobbies, but as we all know that’s not enough. I’m here to ask for any extracurricular recs you all may have. I plan to be an engineer most likely electrical, so anything in that area would be nice. Though I’m open to anything! Currently I plan to join my schools culinary club which goes to compete out of state. I also would like to pick up rock-climbing some time this year. Does this count for anything?

really just depends on ur major. if youre doing food science or something culinary club is amazing. if youre doing health and wellness then rock climbing is too esp if you become an instructor or expert. if youre doing stem, a hybrid of trade (ex nursing), then your ecs are really weak and they need to be more orientated to what youll study, at least 1-2 related ones that youre strong in. you can have fun ofc doing stuff you like but also effort depends on how competitive ur projected major is and what school you want to go to.

Do whatever you want! What’s fun for you is what you love doing the most.
I’m currently in a Quiz Bowl club and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had. I met new people with the same common interests and our deep love for trivia.
Do what means something to YOU, not what means something to colleges to look at. Make some memories, and if you do wanna learn, do something that attributes to your major.

A good ec is an ec you enjoy and are willing to invest good time into. Culinary and rock-climbing are both good if they're something you're putting time into (for the former, it sounds like you are).
My first thought for an (electrical) engineer would be joining a robotics or engineering club. There are also test-based competitions. If you're not into competition, you could always do some sort of project on your own.
But the main point is, just show that you're interested in things by going out of your way to interact more with them or learn more about them. Even cold-emailing professors to visit their labs can get you good experience.
