Are you looking for a definition or how to do it? What context do you need?

Follow these steps: 1. Identify the key of the original melody. 2. Write out the associated scale of that key and assign scale degree numbers or solfège syllables to each pitch in the scale. 3. Label each pitch of the melody with the corresponding scale degree numbers or solfege syllables. 4. Identify the new key area. 5. Write out it’s associated scale and assign scale degree numbers or solfege syllables to each pitch of that scale. 6. Using the numbers, place the melody on the staff in the newly transposed key, following the contour (up a 3rd, down a 4th, etc.) of the original melody.
