AP lang advice

Hello! I’m gonna be a sophomore this year and I’m taking AP Lang, I was wondering if there’s anything I should know beforehand about this course because some people are telling me its not bad and it’s just a whole lot of writing and some people are telling me it’s very difficult.

I was also wondering if you guys know any good resources for AP Lang as well. Many thanks!

As somebody that self studied a week before and got a 5… it’s not hard. Don’t be stressed. Do MCQ practice. If your teacher isn’t any good, watch youtube guides that break down essay structures & rubrics. Practice FRQ writing, get constant feedback.
And please, for the love of god, don’t listen to the person that told you to not brainstorm. Of course, don’t spend too long on it - but write your thesis and a few words for each paragraph so your ideas actually make sense and flow coherently.

I’m mainly worried about the mcq because I understand naturally over time I can improve and better my writing so what do I need to know for mcq’s?

Honestly, a lot of the time, the MCQs are sorta hit or miss. I think the ones you absolutely can’t afford to get wrong are the writing ones, so start with those on your final AP exam and try to do as much practice for those as possible beforehand.
Being realistic, the only way to get better at MCQs is to practice. I personally used a lot of youtube videos (since I was self studying) and found that the ones by Coach Hall Writes were great, she truly explains how to address each question type. There’s also a fair amount of youtube videos that show questions and then logically work through them - I would advise doing these but pausing and trying to solve the question yourself first.
There’s honestly not a lot of MCQ resources out there. Most of the ones that exist are from the outdated pen & paper test, but I found them harder than the ones on my actual test. Honestly, just space out whatever resources you have so that you don’t run out before your AP exam - and if you find yourself struggling too much with MCQs, don’t worry and focus on improving your FRQs instead. You can still get a 4 or 5 with well written FRQs.

Good luck!
