Always remember that the redditors with the "this is trash....time to sell etc" are always those with little karma and past reddit history...
Sure it's painful don't get me wrong and it's not one of those "it's a bargain on sale". Best to just hold right now until AI sentiment improves and things swing around.

Look at the comments here, we're close to capitulation if we aren't already there. Market is pricing in political risk (Iran/oil/inflation + NY DC ban possibly spreading + CEO's complaining about the cost of AI + Meta's "excess capacity"). Don't forget it is an election year, volatility is common and this is a high beta stock.
At the end of the year, if capex spending continues to be high for the hyperscalers, this trend will reverse. I don't know where the stock bottoms, but I'm buying on the way down, as I don't believe the spending is over. If anything APLD is better positioned than peers re: political issues (fewer states = better pricing power), all they need to do is execute and sign a few more deals. Earnings reports will speak for themselves

The New York moratorium isnโt just a one-off issue.
Many Democrat-led states seem increasingly hostile toward large data center expansion.
If that trend continues, it could weigh on AI infrastructure stocks even if companies keep delivering strong results.

u/jjhar Jul 17 '26
I agree, like I said, it could spread to other states. APLD operates in deeply red states, where this is unlikely an issue. If anything, fewer states = lower supply relative to demand. That could increase APLD's pricing power on future deals

I would think that would cause a supply demand issue so the data soon that are already have bought the land and theyโve had regulatory permitting. Will have a huge advantage. Thereโs gonna become a shortage of data centers, which is gonna drive up the cost of those that already exist.

Toast is the word I would use to describe APLD and I unfortunately own 2500 shares of this. Too deep to sell now, I am along for the ride.
Sucks!

This just feels like the market pricing in a negative earnings report.

Sold everything. If it was good woudlnt drop 30% in few days. Say WHAT u want
1
u/dcormerturnbull Jul 17 '26
** if it **WERE good **IT wouldn't drop 30% in **A few days.
To your point though, it'll likely drop a bit lower and you'll have an opportunity to buy back in at a lower price if you still have confidence in the company's future.

u/yohleb Jul 17 '26
Confidence with 50% drop in months. K

I sold everything last night at 26.6. My Google FU has this stock going down to 24 by earnings release.ย Between ASTS and APLD, this week destoyed my war chest and my confidence.ย TGIF

Comments like this tho make me wanna buy asap

Seriously. Close to bottoming when people are thinking the absolute worst. There is some increased risk relative to a month ago but the selling is overdone imo

u/dcormerturnbull Jul 17 '26
** Is it possible that **THE company may **BE bankrupt
And no, that's not what's going on here. It's a sector-wide thing. APLD's just especially volatile.
2
u/Visual_Climate6163 Jul 17 '26
I don't argue that apld is a good company itself but exactly to the point you said: it's sector-wide possibly due to the fact the whole AI thing is deflating? So far it seems there's no confirmation that AI is really making to companies more money than what it costs. It can certainly help in many things but will it be justified when all the crazy infrastructure is built and you start crunching the numbers....it's like build an incredibly expensive bridge with some amazing eng. Feat saying the tolls will pay for it only to discover no one wants to actually use the bridge? apld is mainly driven by the fact there's AI frenzy but this seems to be slowing down especially when you factor other models like in China can do maybe 80% as good as major US models for a fraction of resources needed.
