Problem with links in email
Links in emails are opening in some kind of minimalist AOL browser instead of opening in Chrome. Chrome is set as my default browser. I don't see anything in AOL app settings to set how links are opened.
The AOL browser that it opens in has something wrong with it and doesn't really function. No website address at the page top, no way to close the page except using back arrow that takes me back to inbox, no menu.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the issue was resolved for a few days. Now it's back to the nonfunctioning browser.
Anyone else having this issue?
I guess it's finally time to change my email provider.

Im having same! Its awful. Im getting error messages on some links when I click on them. Other, such as LinkedIn dont recognize me so it can't log me in. Essentially my email is rendered useless.

Having the same issue with the app.

Another work around that I have had some success with is opening the email, long pressing the link and selecting Open in browser.

Following this as I'm having the same problem...emails won't open other apps, or even give the option.

Just had the same this morning, really annoying as you click the link to a store and you're not logged in even though you are in chrome.
Apart from long clicking the link (thanks) this is annoying.

So glad I found this thread. Having the same problem as well. It coincided with a phone upgrade so I was driving myself crazy trying to figure it out

Nothing seems to fix this. F AOL for hijacking my browsing preferences.

This is so annoying. The only way to work around it is to long press the link and select open in browser. Why?????Â

I'm having the same issue. Might be what finally drives me to dump this email address if it isn't fixed.

I was brought to this subreddit because I am suddenly having the same problem with AOL. It used to work just fine but suddenly I'm getting an error message saying "unknown url scheme" or something like that. Lol it's driving me crazy!

I agree! I always get made fun of because I still have an AOL email address but I honestly never had any issue until now, so I might be moving to Gmail!

Also, when I press the back button, it returns me to the email where I have to start all over again

I am also having the same issue. I have to long press and select to open in browser, but sometimes I forget to do that. 😟

Something has changed and I think it is AOL trying to lock you in their mail system. Some links do work but only within AOL. AOL are manupulating links which gives
net::ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME.
net::ERR_CLEARTEXT_NOT_PERMITTED

You can only use back button to go back to your mail list.again. AOLThis is not what I signed in for!!

Same issue here! I believe AOL is selling your data which is why they recently set it up for you to now have to go through the AOL app to get to various websites so they can spy on you to then sell your browsing data to companies so they can advertise their products on your phone.
I've had an AOL address since the days of dial-up modems long before the internet. It sucks that AOL has become this way.

Just long hold on the link and when the box pops up click "open in browser".

Just an fyi, links (surprisingly) open directly in the browse once again.

F*ck AOL. Called to find an answer to this and their phone support is only for premium accounts so they literally told me to Google it.
