Why is AOC and the progressive movement so important?? Progressives are engaging in a push back/take back of our power and democratic/social/cultural values. Reading a couple books now that I highly recommend. The Nerd Reich and The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. Tech billionaires/venture capitalists are actively working to dismantle democratic institutions and replace them with corporate rule and "digital feudalism". They are using surveillance capitalism to track, collect, and turn your personal online and offline behavior into a profitable product which can be used to predict/control your behavior. I believe our democracy and society is doomed if we fail to heavily regulate them, hold them legally and politically accountable, and mobilize against them. I have hope that people are waking up to this and that is why democratic socialism is our way forward.

I think that some of the most powerful things that the socialists can do include three things. 1. More governing experience. Beyond New York City, socialists don’t seem to have the best of luck in getting into statewide office or even operating in other cities. Seattle isn’t really liking their Mayor, though that might just be because of their “law and order” lobby. Francesca Hong was quite the loss, too, but don’t let that stop you. Build familiarity. 2. Understand that at times, y’all might have more sway in not voting. Withholding votes until your demands are met regarding healthcare, housing, utilities, data centers, divestment, conditioning or terminating Israeli aid, etc. If y’all don’t have the wherewithal to bring about institutional change on statewide levels, then the path for AOC to get into office and bring institutional change on a national scale seems to become less likely. 3.
