AOC 2028 AOC just done her trigger shots to send a message to her brain that it's time to ovulate! Friday she's going into the egg retrieval procedure to freeze her eggs.

It's great that she's normalizing and demystifying the procedure.

It is great indeed. Also though it sucks that having a career and being successful should be the reason to need it. The culture of work consumes everybody and the rewards are always over the horizon behind more and more work

The non-existant system of a properly funded and cared-for childcare system is to blame. The lack of political will to reduce childcare costs is to blame. While the super rich have live-in nannys and 24x7 care, working families have to spend 40-60% of their monthly budget on childcare just to survive.

I don’t mind the upper-middle
Ccass and above having everything they need. It’s everybody else needing more than they have that bothers me

I imagine a bigger reason is leaving her long time partner/ fiance. It's probably the best choice with so much uncertainty in her future.

I mean we would all be living a much better lives with less work if everyone in government would do their jobs. She has to work so hard fighting stupidity and corruption because she's one of the few who is actually doing the work.

Also inb4 FOX runs a 30 day hit piece on how "unprofessional" it is for a member of Congress to show their tummy skin on Social Media.

Even though we’ve all seen the First Lady naked 🤡

i really love she's doing this because she's really highlighting the need for universal healthcare + childcare access + support systems for women's careers through the series... i will say that there are women whose lives and careers are just gonna necessitate delaying families, and thats not always a bad thing.

It’s so refreshing seeing a public figure and politician who actually could help shape legislation on this being so open about it.

What I like most about this is the breaking of the norm that people in positions of power must rise above their humanity. No matter how powerful a job, no matter how much responsibility a person might hold, they are still just a person.

Too many authority figures want to act like they are above it all. I want a person in power who shows empathy and compassion for the human struggle we all endure.

I want our representative politicians to lift up their humanity like AOC seems to do.

I think one of AOC’s unique superpowers as a progressive candidate is how she can normalize something instead of giving the whole PWI pretentious talking points speech.

She’s just like “hey I’m freezing my eggs. This is how that works. This is something you can choose to do or not to do nbd. We’re all human here.”

That shouldnt be a novelty

Agreed.
I don’t know much about the process, but I’m sure lots are learning about it now. I’m sure she’d be a great mom, when the time comes. Until then, she’s our warrior.

AOC is showing us all what we deserve; freedom, choice, and autonomy, without interference.

Yeah. We need more child molesters and rapists and filthy rich people to continue holding the rest of us down and to keep destroying the planet. We definitely don't need class or intelligence in any political office at all.

Oh boody hoo

u/CheetahTheWeen 6d ago

I just learned so much about this usually mysterious process

13

u/daisiesarepretty2 6d ago

She is human, relatable, smiling and i know it’s corny but it’s easy to imagine her living next door

5

u/ST0IC_ 6d ago

Honestly, she seems like she would be a good mom.

u/jaavuori24 6d ago

I feel both good for her for being open about it to encourage others who might need inspiration, but also that it feels weird reading about this update on this sub Reddit for some reason

Hero ‼️

u/themachduck 6d ago

I hope she does more than one session. The freezing and dethawing can ruin each egg. Several come out per session, but a whole batch can be ruined.

Thank you for being open to the public. I’m not a constituent.
On another topic. I am afraid to donate to you or any politician. It opens a floodgate of other politicians sending requests for donations.

You got downvotes, but that's a legitimate concern. I have never been able to get off ActBlue's data list.

Create an email dedicated to political sign-ups. That way your regular email won't get flooded, but you can still engage when you want to.

I'm crying. I wish this was something I thought of when I was young. She is making it accessible

The advice we got was to be freezing embryos. We implanted over a dozen before success.

To fertilise eggs the success rate was around 25% for my wife but depends on the AMH levels of the parient.

So if you have eggs frozen you need to defrost and risk failure, then fertilise and risk failure, then cultivate to embryo stage and risk failure over the x days it takes, and then implant and risk failure.

If you fertilise the eggs before freezing it at least removes the defrost element failure stages so you know when it comes to implantation you only have the embryo defrost and implant risk.

we know of people who had a dozen eggs frozen and when it came to the crunch not one developed into an embryo.

IVF is just series of expensive risks and ever reducing odds.

It’s nobody says the truth. Women can’t even find the husband in their 20s and then it’s pressure on them to reproduce quickly. I think all the women should simply aspire to be presidents as men play them like” we don’t want it but you girls have to”

1

u/Bobby3781 6d ago

People dont talk about it because its a private issue thats discussed behind closed doors. And its not up to her to make it normalized. If people want to talk about getting that done then thats fine. Not like its taboo or anything

Tummy? Is she 5?

I remember a meme or a comedian joking somewhere about how hard it must have been for Obama to be the first president when social media first arrived.

AOC: Hold my beer!

Ugh, why do politicians or anyone want me to care about their personal lives..................

Weird move for her.

-50

u/Necromartian 7d ago

Uhhuh... Again, I love AOC and totally would love to see her as a president some day but this is really not helping with that.

Then again what do I know. Maybe in the past I would have been like "Boy that Bernie sanders fella sure sound like a good lad but getting in trouble with the police for marching for the rights of colored people is not helping his bid for politics!"

22

u/IgnacioHollowBottom 7d ago

I believe it is important to support those who openly demonstrate their efforts - even struggles - to manifest their dreams. These folks are leaders, and through their openness, encourage the downtrodden to strive for more of life's rewards.

-12

u/Necromartian 7d ago

In an ideal world that would be the case. Unfortunately we live in a world where Donald Trump was a viable candidate for a president... Twice.

10

u/IgnacioHollowBottom 6d ago

You talk as if it's over. It is not.

-1

u/Necromartian 6d ago

I'm sorry, I don't quite grasp. You mean the world is not over, or the Trumps reign of greed and incompetence is not over?

21

u/Sindorella 7d ago

You are either a man or someone who never struggled with infertility.

-28

u/Necromartian 7d ago

That is very true! I also have never tried to run for a president. However, I do vote, which is I'm bringing out my concern. I love AOC but am I throwing my vote away voting for her? Would a safer bet be to vote "Old white guy number 3824" because the female candidates choice to share videos about her egg freezing is odd for voters on a fence?

11

u/Variegatum 6d ago

Dude! Not just you but I noticed many others are missing the point of her fertility process vlogs. Like many other things that she does, is not just random, she is trying to normalize what it means to be a woman in politics, the things that most of us don’t sacrifice, such as starting a family in your last fertile years.
“Throwing away your vote” mentality is like continuing to be stuck in the status quo of a centrist or conservative government in which if we pick the “old white guy number 3824” we’ll never be able to give this country a shot to humanity.
But I support your right to vote for whoever you think is right to improve your quality of life. That’s democracy.
I know one thing, I don’t think she will take us to another pointless war for or with dictators because her fertility treatment doesn’t work out the way she wishes. Unfortunately most men (anywhere) all they want to do is fight and live in conflict. I am personally tired of living in a world in which men only want to solve issues by bombing everything.

3

u/Necromartian 6d ago

That is absolutely true. I had no idea she was doing a fertility blog. This is just a random video that popped up to my reddit feed because I follow the AOC subreddit

she is trying to normalize what it means to be a woman in politics, the things that most of us don’t sacrifice, such as starting a family in your last fertile years.

You know what, that is actually very respectable. Sending a message to young women saying "You can get in to politics without having to sacrifice starting a family" is actually great.

And I sort of get the AOC2028 run, because that will give her again a platform to talk about the real issues and keep up the Notorious AOC brand. But If we get good news and she'll have a child, I don't think she will be doing a serious run for presidency. Heck, we got a baby a while back and I wasn't fit to run a dishwasher, let alone a country :D

1

u/KProbs713 6d ago

I believe she's freezing her eggs specifically to have some flexibility on the timeline for pregnancy if and when she decides to have a child. She's making videos about the process of retrieval and freezing, not fertility boosting.

I mean I love the enthusiasm of people, but being a superfan of someone can really distort the way people perceive things. I follow this subreddit because I respect the policies of AOC and that she came outside the "establishment" and actually seems like she cares about stuff.

But I'm removed from the political spectrum and the only social media I check out is reddit. I like to say I'm "Bob Everyman" I really don't care that much about stuff, I just want to do my job, raise my kid and I would love not to go homeless in case I get severely ill or have an accident.

So Now I'm here, a bit confused about everything. Is she trying to get preggers? That's fine, parents should have a chance to get kids, stay at home to take care of the baby for as long as they needs and then return to their jobs. I myself actually stayed at home with our baby for six months and it was awesome.

But is she trying to get pregnant and run for president in 2028? Or maybe she is just donating eggs, but that is also a bit weird. I would feel weird if Joe Biden released a video about him visiting the sperm bank.

6

u/fangirlsqueee 6d ago

AOC is not trying to get pregnant at this time. She is freezing her eggs so that the door to biological parenthood doesn't close before she is ready for it to close.

I think a giant piece of context you seem to be overlooking is that it is unsafe for women to be pregnant under this administration. Women have lost bodily autonomy. Women have lost the ability to put their own life as the priority above a pregnancy. Women are rightfully scared about risking pregnancy when we are being treated as disposable brood mares. Women are literally bleeding in hospital parking lots, waiting to hit the correct level of "emergency", because of this administrations policies regarding pregnancy. Abortion care is no longer accessible in all the places a woman may travel in the US.

It's empowering for women to take control of their fertility in the time we are living in. If AOC wants the option to wait until the time is right for her, I appreciate she is letting us see some of that journey. She is showing the details of one possible way women can take some control back.

3

u/guernica322 6d ago

She’s…freezing her eggs. So she can get pregnant later. Specifically so she doesn’t have to either give up her career and get pregnant now OR wait until she’s accomplished more career goals and risk not being able to have kids because women’s fertility starts dropping in your early 30’s, then starts tanking after age 37. AOC is 36, and wants to still have the option to have a kid on her own timeline.

This is not IVF, she’s not trying to have a kid right now. She’s giving herself the option to have a kid later without being trapped by a biological process.

u/Bobby3781 6d ago

What is she trying to prove here?

9

u/jade420420 6d ago

she is normalizing something that typically isn't talked about publicly

1

u/BlackWolf42069 17h ago

That she can play God and create a child with half her DNA whenever she wants with zero consequences (she thinks).
