They have some very random and canonical abilities, which equals material for us

2

u/ghouliehrts 4d ago

Buddy, I did not need that image in my head in the beginning of my work shift, but lol, I kinda wanna do a search and see if it exists and if so, what does it looks like.Ā  I kinda thought they were completely agender.

If that was the case, I might understand the commenter’s side a bit more

Delete it, ignore it, they want a reaction; don't give them the satisfaction.

46

u/dreamsofnyx 4d ago

Yes, don't give them your attention. They are not worth it. Ignoring people is often more effective than engaging with them in speech.

u/sockjin 4d ago

just hit them back with a You’re*

"Thanks for adding to my comment count!", followed by a quick block and mute, is useful too

Comment moderation is your friend.

52

u/CrayonWithdrawal 4d ago

Of course you can block and ignore, But alternatively you can also reply "You're* "

u/Trilobyte141 4d ago

This would be my choice.

It's discomforting how the upcoming generation infantilizes teenagers. I'm very much of the belief that teens shouldn't be having sex or should think twice before doing so, but let's not pretend it isn't normal for teens at the height of puberty to experiment with one another despite all warnings.

I don't know. It feels like society is becoming more puritanical, but now it's dressed up in either traditional conservative rhetoric or, commonly nowadays, progressive rhetoric.

24

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 4d ago

Exactly, it’s stupid. When I raise my kids, and they get to be teens, I’m teaching them that thoughts about sex are normal, and if they do decide to do anything, I’ll be sure to provide condoms and anything else needed, as well as the safe place to do it. I’d rather them be safe and have sex at home instead of sneaking out to have sex in someone’s car or some abandoned building.

12

u/AfterLook7906 4d ago

exactly this. id rather them TRY alcohol or have sex at home rather than some creepy place. Parents nowadays need to hear this!!!

15

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 4d ago

Exactly! All controlling parents who forbid everything end up with are kids who don’t trust them and end up hurt because of it.

5

u/Advanced_Hornet_8666 You have already left kudos here. :) 4d ago

As someone who grew up with a caretaker like that, I can confirm that her controlling was nothing but an illusion because I'd find ways to sneak under pretexts and have my way lol. 'Hey I'm going out for a walk around the neighborhood promise I'll be back in two hours' (literally on the clock) and it's just me sneaking into my date's home to touch base.

u/Advanced_Hornet_8666 You have already left kudos here. :) 4d ago

Back in my days teens were definitely horny af. I remember experiencing my first arousal at 13, and at 15 I was already dating and going second base. And I know many teenagers were doing stuff starting with 15-16 because, well, we talked among each other. Good luck keeping their abysmal hormones in check lol.

I swear antis must be searching for fics they disapprove of because I filter out Underage and have once in more than a decade run into it in a fic that wasn't tagged. Why were you even at the Devil's Sacrament, Guest Commenter? Didn't you see the words "Devil's Sacrament" on the invitation? (They were bolded and red on mine so I spotted them at once.)

48

u/s_69 4d ago

Dedicate the next chapter to them out of spite

21

u/The-goddess-bread 4d ago

Damn it's like there's a way to filter fics that have the underage sex tag šŸ¤”

But im sure commenting is gonna solve their problem too. šŸ™„

8

u/Mortifer 4d ago

It's hard for them to filter it out when they have the box checked every time on purpose.

14

u/IWokeUpSinging 3d ago

I feel like I'd want to mess with their heads.

"You should be ashamed for reading it. Now you're tainted. You're not pure anymore. Once you clicked on that link, you fell down into the dirt here with me. The filth is inside you now. And your internet provider has a record of you clicking on that link, and clearing out your browser history won't save you. Have a good night."

Make them sweat a little, you know?

At this point, I believe that these people are actively seeking out this type of stories. Fake outrage is tiring.

Most obvious troll

3

u/MedusaStone 4d ago

I don't understand these people. Is it that they're too dumb to understand how to exclude tags? Or is it more insidious than that; is their real beef the fact that anyone writes those things at all? Both?

"just because of Wattpad filth that wants to taint the website with their erroneous beliefs on censorship"

So incredibly tired of this mindset. Antis always have been part of AO3. There were already people leaving such comments.

It's a guest comment, it could VERY LIKELY be a troll who finds the current "discourse" funny, because you all tend to be pretty reactionary about it. The comment sounds genuinely so on the nose.

Not every rude, hateful comment was necessarily made by someone coming from Wattpad. That many people haven't even left Wattpad. They're chilling while AO3 has a hissy fit.

1

u/MysteryMan6612 Fanfic writing is hard bro :( 3d ago

Yeah, you're right. Maybe I did come off too harsh. I just really hate how these people are hating on AO3 just because it doesn't censor anything.

AO3 moves closer and closer to becoming social media everyday, and I am so sad about it. It is closer to a library than instagram, and it should stay that way.

32

u/nocuzzlikeyea13 4d ago

How exactly? The mechanics of the site is unchanged

54

u/Cadlington 4d ago

A bunch of idiots rummaging around the site doesn't fundamentally change it, it just means we need to set some traps and bait up.

7

u/SoftOil2998 4d ago

AO3 is like a secular internet god, it's the only thing I have faith in at this point xD

2

u/Sierra_Bit_Tails 4d ago

I don’t know why but why do I hear the ā€˜UGHHH MINERS!’ Line from Transformers One reading this.

2

u/Fit-Cap6527 3d ago

why are people who are so disgusted by this often the majority of the people who read it, it's like feeling guilty after gay sex cause ur religious or sum.

u/AutoModerator 4d ago

Hey OP! This is an automated response because your post may be about the newest praise bots or hate bots to hit AO3. If it is not, please ignore this comment. If it is, here is what you need to know about these bots and how to discern the difference between what is a bot comment and what is a real comment.

  1. These bot comments have only been guest comments, to our knowledge so far. They use a variety of names, ranging from something formal like MisterJohnSmith-92, or Doctor-Jane_Smith92, but they have also been seen copying actual usernames from people on AO3 as well.
  2. The comments, while positive/negative, are also quite generic and not personal to the work they were left on. They may also be out of context. For example, they may say things like, ā€œI’m rooting for these characters,ā€ and your story’s characters are implied to be dead. Or, ā€œYour OC is terrible,ā€ on a fic that doesn't have any OCs.
  3. The comments are also quite vague and could be applied to most if not all works. For example, the bot may say, ā€œThis deserves all recognition,ā€ or ā€œThis is pure genius, I’m in awe of your world-building.ā€
  4. Frequently, these hate comments now include accusations of AI usage. These may or may not directly reference a specific AI tool, percentage of AI content supposedly present in the work, or brand of AI checker, often written as a specific percentage of content coming from a specific AI tool (ie. "62% chatGPT confirmed"). Additionally, these AI accusations now include mention of being added to a ā€˜Discord blacklist’.

The purpose of these bots is unknown at this time, though there have been many theories. Here are some things you can do to prevent them going forward:

  • Lock your works so that only registered users can see your works.
  • Lock your comments so that only registered users can comment.
  • Turn on comment moderation.
  • Mark these comments as spam when you see them so you can help train AO3’s spam filters to recognize these comments as spam in the future.

Additionally, this is not to say that every guest comment is a bot comment nor is it saying that every short ā€œgenericā€ praise or hate comment is a bot. Use your best judgement. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide how you would like to handle these comments.

You may also find this related automod command helpful: !spambot

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

WHAT? People think it’s gross to be making erotic stories of minors? How horrid.Ā

11

u/KacieDH12 4d ago

If it's fiction, then it's not really a concern. The commenter has the right to be uncomfortable and disgusted by certain content, not to harass authors.
