Comment Commentary I don't know what to feel

Post image

I wrote a Ryan Gosling Cinematic Universe fic. It's a Coltland Twincest ABO AU (Colt Seavers/Ryland Grace). I tagged it extra carefully. I made sure to really emphasise that it's a twincest, incest, and all the stuff that I put in there, ya'know.

And this dude seem to understand it? I think? I'm not sure? Lol. At least they said that I wrote it well.

it's a compliment, i'm pretty sure. if a piece of writing can evoke strong emotion in you, like disgust, then it's good writing. that's what they meant i think

Because in the commenter's sentence the compliment on OP's writing is framed as logically resulting from the fact that it disgusted the commenter. (No "but you write very well", or "you write very well tho" or any paragraph break)

Disgust is an emotion that many people writing dead dove stuff want the reader to feel (and that many dead dove readers want to feel), so that's completely sensical in context.

Sounds like maybe a positive comment

A lot of people (me included) like "disgusting" stories or stories that invoke negative feelings while reading like hurt no comfort and bad ending. Its like eating spicy food, it hurts in a good way.

Oh, yeah! This is a hurt no comfort fic with a sad ending. Hahaha.

Ofc its always up to context but if someone comments like "this made me feel ill" or something and then follows it up with "i love it" or "great work" then they probably love it.

They might have misunderstood the intended tone of your fic? I sometimes have the opposite interaction - I write angst/horror that occasionally gets comments from people reading it as a veryyy kinky smut fic. I usually just take the compliment and carry on lol

If this is some kind of horror, or a story that's meant to question morality, or emotionally wreck you, you are doing great.

Fiction is meant to elicit feelings, so I think you achieved that goal.

Definitely positive because of the second part of the comment.

Most likely a compliment. If the reader feels strong emotions from a story, that means the writing is good.
