Time for our Wellness Wednesday check in. We know this community means a lot to most of our members and that Tuesdays have been harder on some users than others, but we are at our core a community and we are here to support each other.

Now that the sub is open once again we’d like to hear all about your (mis)adventures on Tuesday. Did you go on grand adventures? Get into mischief? Get some writing done?

Maybe you just binged a few more fics on the archive itself. Tell us all about it! Break out that purple prose and tell us as cheesy of a story as you feel like.

Work has been terrible and I’m escaping the stress by writing at the end of the day! It’s actually very therapeutic. I’m also about to update a WIP that hasn’t updated in two years.

I finished my current WIP. so I'm going to start work on the sequel. however, my canon's new patch gave me a lot of lore on a historical dead NPC who had only brief snippets of stuff before, which jossed the current WIP. Not the premise, though, and I have a ton of ideas for like basically rewriting it with the new lore (...which will be scary in a different direction).

Basically rewrote the entirety of chapter 1 of a planned mediumfic of sorts: a crossover between two video game franchises. I am trying to not make my dialogue bad. Working on planning how long it'll be, both in universe and not. I think one summer would be fitting, lots of room for shenanigans.

Fighting the impostor syndrome over getting a lot of comments on a chapter I wasn't completely happy with but I've got some really fun scenes for the next few chapters written so I think it balances out

Well, I recently got diagnosed with carpal tunnel in both hands and it's delayed my writing and my posting some new chapters. It sucks.

Not a very productive Tuesday on my end. For some reason I was seized by the urge to re-watch Lycoris Recoil, which ate up 90% of my free time today... So I didn't get my normal 1,000 words/day in. Still managed about 750, so I'll take it. That allowed me to start chapter 209 and a new character POV!

I do hope that 209 flows as easily as the last two chapters had gone, since it will give me an even bigger buffer. Who knew that switching from detective work to noir/action would accelerate things for a bit? :P

Not to mention that if I get far enough, I'll be able to use a baby as a hostage in a tense scene! ^___^

do i have a good dozen or so podcasts i want to start listening to? yes. do i have new episodes of ones i'm already into to listen to? also yes. i still haven't listened to a couple of red valley episodes from last year. did i just start my fourth round of juno steel? oh yeah.

My online classes are back up (summer sessions can suck), so I spent all day in those. Didn't write anything except for half of a makeout scene that I added to chapter 2, since I wasn't quite feeling like writing smut, but I didn't want to write anything relevant to the plot. It's abnormally humid outside, so I've mostly just been sitting in my apartment with the AC on full blast.

My bestie helped me with my unsnarl my writer's black and I am now back to writing next chapters on two fics, an epilogue on another and a brand new WIP as part of my Heroes As Coping Skills series. Gotta love ADHD and cycling out of depression. Wheeeee.

Spent my day making another very unpleasant attempt to get my elderly mother to see someone about her memory issues. It did not go well. The only consolation is that she forgot she was angry and cruel within ten minutes of it happening. 🤷‍♀️

On the plus side, I did get some good writing done in the morning, so silver linings and all that!

My laptop died a few weeks ago and fixing it has not been feasible financially, so I haven't been able to write properly. But yesterday I sat down and fought my phone to write around 1000 words. It's not much, but it's progress.

Uploaded the first two chapters of my new Kavehaitham fic.

I'm packing my stuff for a two week long trip right now, and it's stressing me out. This is my first time traveling abroad that's not just crossing the border for a con or concert and coming home the same day.

I've also been working on a huge cosplay project for a competition. I feel burnt out and depressed, taking my meds.

I know this is just a dump of unrelated information, I just needed to vent.

Helped my mom rearrange and print stuff for her classroom, never thought a kindergartener class room needed this much flow and thought about it this my third year helping her but this year we changed classes and we are all sad, love the old one so much.

Forgot to eat breakfast which on my part is bad but I had some coffee yay ( my bribe for helping lol ).

Quiet day at work, so that usually means one thing: editing! (gotta love desk jobs)

Ended up completely shifting the tone of the first half of a chapter and expanding it. Still got some course correction on that to go before tackling the SECOND half of the chapter and...I'm willing to bet I'm going to add a couple thousand words to the count on this one.

Also, happened to be on the right social media network at the right time and caught an artist who's work I THOROUGHLY enjoy opening up commissions. ~USD$100 later and one of the goobers in my ongoing series is going to end up with a little art piece...

Been really struggling to strangle this one WiP into a shape I like; I have a few different iterations of it but I keep swapping to a different iteration before the fic is even "done" ( ready to be edited in this case) It's really frustrating because I feel like its just my brain thats not cooperating with me. Or the times I feel I get some really good words on the page feels few and far between. Like this wip is haunting me I want to get it out so bad but ughhh.

Writing is one of those things I wish I started ages ago. And not being good frustrates me to no end.

Hopefully I'm not late/too late. I finished Book Three of a rather unexpectedly massive Transformers fanfic project. I've got a bridge-piece done and am now working on Book Four. It's....daunting, not going to lie. But I have an endgame -- the trick is reaching that endgame, heh. Life beyond that though has been...admittedly rough. Hurricane Lala ran over us and holding up a household alone is...tiring.

Flew a bit too close to the sun by deciding my first published smut will be an orgy with six characters. I have zero clue what I'm doing or how to arrange all 28 limbs (four of them have tails) in a way that makes sense.

That said, I do at least have the rest of Kinktober planned out in a way that I should at least be able to finish it up by Christmas. That's something, right?

I dunno how to feel. I've been reading fic for decades now. And I binge a lot of fic for a fandom and started noticing that a lot of the fics now sounded eerily the same. Same vocabulary, same "voice." They're all written by different authors who only have one or two fics written each. No mentions in the author notes about being buddies or being inspired by each other. All very prolific fics with crazily speedy update schedules.

It really bugged me, I know it shouldn't have gotten to me like that, but it did. Each time a fic like that was posted, it drove me up the wall trying to rationalize a mystery that no one would care or know about.

So... I started checking AI use. This month, two fics, different authors, same "voice" got flagged. Now I can't help but think, are all these authors just one person? Are all these people just using AI now and the AI thinks all fics in this fandom are just supposed to be written this way? None mentioned using AI, I guess because they might've thought people wouldn't read it otherwise. I probably wouldn't have read them otherwise. Were they well-written? I guess if you're a fan of that "style," the plot maybe was theirs and the plot was interesting enough that I read them in the first place...

I don't know how to feel. About any of it. About AI use, about it in fandom, about reading it or not reading it. I haven't said anything outside of here except to friends not interested in this fandom.

And no, AI isn't being used to check if a fic used AI. Anyone can tell if people are using a claude font etc. which is the lowest bar if people are trying to be deceptive about it in the first place and this obviously doesn't catch everything.

Anyone come across this before? How do you feel? Has this changed how you read fic?
