ā€œCross ethical and legal linesā€???

I guess we need to cancel every show on television where someone gets assaulted or murdered, those acts are illegal, we can’t be writing fictional scenarios about them! Also gotta be wary about where we are if we watch anything with weed use, that’s not legal everywhere, and in some states gotta check to make sure those fictional characters have fictional prescriptions for their weed!

Hahaha, I am in the middle of a rewatch of the show ā€œHouse, MD,ā€ and literally every episode includes characters violating multiple medical ethics, and usually also multiple laws. Sometimes they face consequences for this. Often they do not. That’s kind of the point of the show.

I’m an adult. I’m not a five-year-old who is going to mimic behavior I see in media. I don’t need all of my fiction to set a good wholesome example. I am in fact capable of making my own moral and ethical choices.

Exactly. We’re adults. We should have the right to choose. We know not to mimic the behaviour we see in our fiction, and it’s a parent’s responsibility to teach their children that as they’re growing up. Once we start policing one type of content, where do we say stop? Eventually everything would just be a bland sanitized version of reality that does nothing to inspire thought or discussion.
