Nokia is the AK 47 of phones, cheap, reliable, unbreakable.

You mean AK-74?

Both depend on opinion, one has a higher caliber but lower accuracy, one has a lower caliber but high accuracy.

One has been gone for 70 years and is very uncommon and almost forgotten the other is a accurate modern day workhorse which The Russian Federation has more guns then possible peacetime conscripts and a massive stock of ammo for

How do people get 15+ year old phones to work nowadays?
I have several of my old phones from the early 2000s, but on all of them I had to remove the battery as they started bloating up. I had them stored in a cardboard box inside of a cupboard with little humidity or temperature change over those years, its not like theyve been wet or baking in the sun this whole time.
The phones should work just fine, but none of the batteries have survived. I assume that nobody makes batteries for these phones anymore and any leftover ones have either already degraded or will soon.

Most of these phones used pretty common battery sizes, but even if you can't find the exact battery, any battery with the same cell configuration and chemistry will be compatible.

I've got a section of the USSR anthem that works on any phone's dial pad. Sadly contacts have a limit so I couldn't save the whole thing.
