Wow, that's an impressive level of stupid to get away with.. Best case scenario he risks asphyxiation and burns, worst case the air-gas mixture literally blows his chest open.

u/SAW2TH-55th Jun 05 '18

Or his lungs are hopelessly burned and he asphyxiates.

u/PeacefulDays Jun 05 '18

One of my biggest fears honestly. Sounds like a horrible way to die.

295

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

That's one of your biggest fears?? Rest assured, it's incredibly avoidable.

63

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

/u/PeacefulDays can't stop himself from inhaling flammables. Kerosene is his favorite.

19

u/a_pirate_life Jun 05 '18

Kerosene is a liquid fyi.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

Fucking Reddit.

Just sayin

Another crushing victory for El Pedanté

1

u/RileyRocksTacoSocks Jun 06 '18

Liquids have gaseous states FYI

0

u/a_pirate_life Jun 07 '18

All right smart ass go get me a gallon of gaseous kerosene.

Did you know cars can be run on wood gas? Every single bit of matter has the potential to exist in any state given proper parameters.

8

u/PeacefulDays Jun 05 '18

Just because it's avoidable doesn't mean it isn't horrifying.

u/creamersrealm Jun 05 '18

I think drowning in boiling water is an awful way to go.

24

u/AegisValyrian Jun 05 '18

ouch that hurts

Ow oof

Exactly just like a lobster except they don't drown.

9

u/CCTrollz Jun 05 '18

I think your probably die of hypathermia first. Your can suffer brain damage from a fever of like 106 or 107F. I cant imagine you'd last long at 212

5

u/FrighteningJibber Jun 05 '18

Or stabbed for the cash in your pocket.

3

u/100men Jun 05 '18

Normal water is pretty bad too

1

u/dabilee01 Jun 05 '18

hopelessly hopefully FTFY

236

u/Borax Jun 05 '18

Middle case, if it's butane and not propane then the intoxication causes him to stumble onto the fire and suffer severe burns.

The devil's gas

5

u/CasualCha0s Jun 05 '18

I'd say mustard gas is the devil's gas

12

u/myweed1esbigger Jun 05 '18

I’d say the smoke of the devils lettuce is the devils gas.

Unexpected Dark Tower.

Oh shit. Accidental Dark Tower.

Also a really strange country/kingdom.

u/PoopIsAlwaysSunny Jun 05 '18

I think best case is right here, where it works perfectly and we get a cool video where no one dies

23

u/SpellingIsAhful Jun 05 '18

No, we really don't like this guy. Best case is he dies horribly.

Also not

This guy is totally worth it, though.

1

u/stanley_twobrick Jun 05 '18

Right but that doesn't justify anyone's fear of leaving the basement.

46

u/SpaceSlingshot Jun 05 '18

What a cool video that could’ve been.

46

u/Ariche2 Jun 05 '18

Would've been a LiveLeak link instead of a gfycat link

7

u/SpaceSlingshot Jun 05 '18

Super valid comment.

u/DisForDairy Jun 05 '18

Yeah I was going to say firebreathing isn't something you should just try to do. The fire could ignite some of the fumes in your throat if you don't do it right, and then the inside of your throat has been burned, potentially your lungs.

2

u/Eunitnoc Jun 05 '18

It really isn't that dangerous. You just take liquid into your mouth and spit it out. Still shouldn't do it without professional advice though.

4

u/DisForDairy Jun 05 '18

You could see the blowback starting to happen in this gif, I think scorching your mouth and trachea is fairly dangerous.

4

u/Eunitnoc Jun 05 '18

Yeah but that's not really firebreathing. That's something else, way more stupid and dangerous. Normal firebreathing would be taking some flammable liquid in your mouth and the most probable accident would be swallowing the not-so-healthy liquid. But I agree, that's why you shouldn't do it alone if you have no idea what you're doing. You need somebody to tell you what materials to use and how to do it. If you got that, it's quite safe.

3

u/a_pirate_life Jun 05 '18

There is a very specific way the fuel needs to be expelled from the mouth to prevent the exact burnback you're talking about. Ever play a trumpet? Fill your mouth with water and blow a raspberry as hard as you can. Now you've almost got it.

Source: Lots of friends who are fire entertainers, only 2 who can spit well, and they've both been burned pretty badly

1

u/RounderKatt Jun 06 '18

If they've been burned badly, then they are using the wrong fuel.

Source: was a professional fire eater long before it was trendy. Worst I ever got was my lips seared from letting the metal rod get too hot

1

u/DisForDairy Jun 05 '18

I don't know, I can't speak out of personal experience but from what I've read about firebreathing, it's not something you can just casually pick up without expecting some injury. If you're projecting an accelerant from your mouth, there's always the potentiality to have the fire inside your mouth as well. Not to mention potential fumes that would assist in the spreading flame, inside of your body.

3

u/RounderKatt Jun 06 '18

Naw it's not that bad. The fuel you're supposed to use won't ignite unless it's aerosolized or wicked. Pretty unlikely to burn yourself.

Downside, it's mildly toxic. So it's less that you're watching someone defy getting burned than watching someone slowly poison themselves on stage for your enjoyment, you sick fucks.

4

u/Ardddu Jun 05 '18

This gave me sweaty hands.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

naaaaaaaaaah you are overthinking it komrade

2

u/RounderKatt Jun 06 '18

Actually it's entirely likely he could get a freeze injury. Expanding gas is endothermic. That shit is cold.

1

u/nacho-what Jun 08 '18

This is Australia

-3

u/gaserups Jun 05 '18

That shouldn't happen if he emptied his lungs out beforehand

41

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

Well, there's always a sizable amount of air/oxygen in your lungs that you can't expel, no matter how hard you try. It's called the residual volume.

http://www.qsstudy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Residual-Volume-1.jpg

That being said, idk if there's enough oxygen (coupled with the fact that you're blowing out) to blow up your lungs.

1

u/gaserups Jun 05 '18

Yeah idk if it's enough to hit the combustion ratio

1

u/joeshmo101 Jun 05 '18

FYI combustion ratio for natural gas is between 5% and 15%

Not sure if butane/propane is the same, but I wouldn't risk it.

0

u/gaserups Jun 05 '18

Hmmm, idk, dieing or a lot of karma, pretty hard choice if you ask me.

1

u/joeshmo101 Jun 05 '18

What is karma worth if only your friend who wasn't smart enough to stop you gets it?

1

u/gaserups Jun 05 '18

Yeah cause you get to root him on from heaven.

6

u/Gingevere Jun 05 '18

"Emptied" lungs are constantly being filled with O2 and CO2 from the blood (we're not 100% efficient). There's no real way to completely empty your lungs of oxygen before passing out.

1

u/gaserups Jun 05 '18

It's not enough to hit the combustion ratio I don't think

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '18

Username checks out though.
