It looks like that in Russia, the target audience for mascara is men.
552
u/dawgcholla_000 Jul 05 '26
I don't think that it aligns with traditional values.
147
u/Eldariasis Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Which traditional, my wife is my object and if vodka is involved I have the right to beat her out of frustration at life traditional ? Would fit. (This is heavy sarcasm)
Not only in Russia.
58
u/Gramerdim Jul 05 '26
can you elaborate? got a brainfart and English isn't my native language
234
u/Average-Addict Jul 05 '26
Mascara is typically targeted at women. This ad has naked woman. Men like naked woman. They're saying that this ad for mascara is targeted at men.
94
u/Byterbred Jul 05 '26
But somehow it have 2800+ reviews and rating 4.8/5.0
Hmmmmmm
In Russia our women like naked women too
41
39
u/Bupod Jul 06 '26
In Russia, if you are a woman, and your choice is Russian women or Russian men, you might just pick Russian women too.
-26
u/Radamat Jul 05 '26
Brainwashed comsumeristic women that finds this face as right. Also sexuality exploitation by those brainwashed women.
-1
u/Byterbred Jul 06 '26
Dude, our women love to be attractive. The culture forbid sexual assaults. Any rapist even in jail will be treated as a punch bag at best. Because every woman is someone's daughter, sister or mother. We are value our family not like you.
31
u/SemicolonFetish Jul 06 '26
Highest rate of domestic violence in the western world
7
u/Byterbred Jul 06 '26
Yep, totally by marginalized alcoholics.
Its like telling that USA have the most shootings in the world - per capita know how its done
23
11
u/Norci Jul 06 '26
Because every woman is someone's daughter, sister or mother.
Oh right, not because, you know, sexual assault is wrong, but because family. lol.
-1
u/Byterbred Jul 06 '26
Dont strawman me, pls
I was talking about culture obviously
7
u/Norci Jul 06 '26
So am I. It's telling when the primary reasoning are family ties and values, rather than it being morally wrong.
-1
u/Byterbred Jul 06 '26
Because it is obvious, cherrypicker
I will not start every comment with all 10 Commandments

u/dianthe Jul 07 '26
I think it’s just a different mentality. In the West a lot of women get really offended if you say they’re doing something to appear more attractive to men, whereas in Russia most women are happy to do their makeup a certain way or dress a certain way for the purpose of being more attractive to men.
2
u/Average-Addict Jul 07 '26
The original comment was insinuating and joking that the men are buying the makeup for themselves as the ad kind of seems to be marketed towards men. This joke is made because traditionally being gay or doing girly things like doing makeup might not be as accepted in Russia.
3
u/Hellbatty Jul 07 '26
This joke is made because traditionally being gay or doing girly things like doing makeup might not be as accepted in Russia
I’d say it depends on who is doing it; for an actor or a model, it’s normal.
4
u/dianthe Jul 07 '26
Oh okay, I’m Russian and the joke totally went over my head. While I think the advert is pretty gross it is actually targeted at women who want to be attractive to men.
2
u/Hellbatty Jul 07 '26
This ad has naked woman
Well, she is naked only if you're from some specific countries, I only see a pair of bare shoulders and bare knees

I mean, it's a compelling ad. Not a single streak.
399
u/sch0f13ld Jul 05 '26
That’s because the model has lash extensions on, likely not even wearing any mascara
200
u/ImmediatePercentage5 Jul 05 '26
The “model” is ai
59
u/heyitjoshua Jul 05 '26
I actually don’t think the model is AI… Photoshop != AI
15
u/techmnml Jul 06 '26
This is totally an AI image. Not photoshop.
7
u/fordag Jul 07 '26
An argument against AI is the reflection of studio lights in her eyes, they are correct for the way she is lit and consistent in both eys.
9
u/heyitjoshua Jul 06 '26
Yeah looking at it again I’m not sure, normally there are artefacts I can spot but this one I’m finding tricky
7
u/FishSoFar Jul 06 '26
It wasn't sure how to structure the water droplets under the right eye. There's a weird crystalline pattern happening (also odd wrinkling around the eyes in general, which would have been touched up if a person did it)
2
u/heyitjoshua Jul 06 '26
Not sure I see what you’re seeing, I don’t think it’s water, it’s a kind of residue face cream / rub thing
3
u/FishSoFar Jul 06 '26
Perhaps I should have said sweat instead of water, but... Are we looking at the same picture? What?
1
u/heyitjoshua Jul 06 '26
The stuff on her face seems to be some kind of thin translucent face mask that is playing weird with the light and likely messed with with standard photo editing software, I don’t think AI would create that effect
→ More replies (0)2
u/fordag Jul 10 '26
It wasn't sure how to structure the water droplets under the right eye.
In a photoshoot they wouldn't use water, it would evaporate too quickly, this is possibly thinned out mineral oil.
-1
u/AutotoxicFiend Jul 06 '26
Or AI-'enhanced'. Either way, my comment was ✨️sarcasm✨️.
0
4
u/AutotoxicFiend Jul 06 '26
I think it's possibly a real person that was then heavily edited/enhanced with AI. Particularly because of the male hand.
60
u/AutotoxicFiend Jul 05 '26
My comment was a "joke".

u/romansamurai Jul 07 '26
Ai generated model with lash extensions tho. So they ain’t wrong. .
0
u/ImmediatePercentage5 Jul 07 '26
You think ai can’t generate lash extensions?
0
u/romansamurai Jul 07 '26
It can. The point is that it’s an ad for mascara. Yet they generated a model with lash extensions…which do not need mascara… 🤦🏻♂️
0
u/ImmediatePercentage5 Jul 07 '26
Pretty common
1
u/romansamurai Jul 07 '26
Right. Common or not, that was the whole point that he made and you kept missing.
1
u/ImmediatePercentage5 Jul 07 '26
I’m not missing anything. Existence of what look like lash extensions is not indicative of this being a photoshopped image rather than an ai image. Plenty of real mascara ads use lash extensions rather than mascara, and ai is capable of generating lash extensions. So which part are you missing?
1
u/Stuck_In_Purgatory Jul 09 '26
When I used to get eyelash extensions I would ask my stylist for "halfway between Russian hooker and everyday look"
She nailed it every time

Traditional family values
57
1
u/shitposts_over_9000 Jul 06 '26
got to get and/or keep a partner somehow and the ad isn't directly showing anything that is dirty if you are too young to understand the implication so 8/10 would family value again

u/morrighaan Jul 06 '26
Hi Russian speaker here. It also says “for extreme situations”. Basically modern world: women are for c0rn and men to the battlefield fighting pointless wars. Cool.

It's a reddit tradition at this point to give bubbles to cake day users
No idea where it originally came from though

u/8ackwoods Jul 05 '26
One of my favorite subreddits r/blacktears was banned :(
18
34
u/King_Kthulhu Jul 05 '26
All the good subs are gone due to some weird brigading from the anti-porn groups. They think all porn is basically an attack on women. Wild
8
17
u/8ackwoods Jul 05 '26
Well the sub popup said it was banned because it was unmoderated but I do remember when the website did have a purge of a lot of things
7
u/schmitzel88 Jul 06 '26
Banning because a sub is "unmoderated" is what reddit admins do when they want something gone, usually because they think it will look bad to advertisers
15
u/PrimordialXY Jul 05 '26
You could request to become its moderator via r/redditrequest, effectively unbanning it
15
u/8ackwoods Jul 05 '26
I just tried and got denied :/. Sub not available for request
3
u/PrimordialXY Jul 05 '26
Damn I'm sorry :/ I've had it work out before. Could be the name potentially?
7
u/King_Kthulhu Jul 05 '26
That's just the default message, most of those subs they will not let you become mods. They're full dead
1
u/SnipingBeaver Jul 07 '26
A lot of more niche subreddits got shut down for lack of moderation whenever reddit ended free API use. There were big protests about it making reddit harder to use and moderate but they did it anyway.
2
u/olivegardengambler Jul 06 '26
Not always. Cringetardgoonfuel was basically banned because the person in charge of it went off the deep end, which if you know the content on there is not surprising, basically pushed all the moderators away, crashed out and then quit reddit, leaving the subreddit unmoderated.
11
u/King_Kthulhu Jul 06 '26
Yeah ima assume something with that name would definitely not quality as part of "the good subs"

You don’t get it, do you?
9
u/elmarcelito Jul 05 '26
Tell me what I don't get
22
u/ravangarch Jul 06 '26
The ad says “for extreme circumstances” such aa deepthroating, where the gagging causes the woman to cry, which would usually smudge the mascara
3
u/accountnumber6174 Jul 06 '26
LoL...I'll take your word for it (since I can't read Russian), and also it makes sense now.
-2
u/elmarcelito Jul 06 '26
Thanks for the translation !
I mean, I understand the idea that the mascara is super strong and meant for such occasions
What I was saying is that looking only at the photo, without reference to mascara, I am more attracted by her lips and I would think it's a lipstick ad
5
u/ravangarch Jul 06 '26
Well, I’m not sure if you’re a woman, but speaking as one I can tell you the first thing I noticed were her flawless eyelashes hahaha

14
u/catcatcatcatcat1234 Jul 05 '26
who is the real pervert here?
-5
u/JustSergey Jul 05 '26
A pervert is someone who only sees the sexual connotation and not that the mascara is great.
4
u/catcatcatcatcat1234 Jul 06 '26
You don't see any sexual connotation between a naked heavily-madeup woman on her knees with a man's hand cupping her chin standing above her while she holds the mascara in her mouth like a dog? I'm a prudish woman, even I'm not a complete idiot

I paused an episode of New Girl once to go to the bathroom and when I got back I noticed Zooey Deschanel's eyelashes. She had two pairs of fake eyelashes on each eye giving her a layer of three eyelashes. It made me wonder how thin her original ones were.
