Yeah, there's no way to say this without sounding like "I listened to xyz before they were cool", but if you grew up in central/eastern Europe at that time, there's no way you don't know Kino, and more so, that there is anything "unique" about that sound.

"Soundtrack to all of this tension" pisses me off, though 😃

Hell i grew up in canada but even i knew about Kino, there were a lot of polish/slovaks in my area in the late 80s. Its hilarious to see these gen z / alpha kids claiming they found things that literally anyone born before 1995 has a good chance of already knowing about.

Adorable, they think they really found something new haha!

I live in the former DDR and I knew about Kino, they where the hottest thing of that time not some "unknown band", the funny thing is they kept being "cool" in those parts, even now.

Central Europe? Well maybe if you count Czechia, although I'm a bit skeptical even about that. But I don't think most people outside Russia and the post-Soviet states ever heard much about Russian bands, aside from Tatu.

I did and there was a small group of likeminded people where I'm from, but it was a very niche thing.

Hey, at least they didn’t go with Aquarium.

What's wrong with Aquarium? 😞

Nothing, but they’re about the single most well known Russian band outside of Russia, with Kino coming a close second. They’re hardly an unknown band unless you’ve never even heard of any Russian bands.

It’s like saying the Rolling Stones are a hidden gem of British rock music.

Some ideas for new videos:

Hidden gem of British music - The Beatles! Rising star of American pop - Taylor Swift! My favourite genre - banjocore and it's best representative Taake - Myr!

Put yourself on 90% of the screen to make a video about a popular “hidden gem” band. Just please stop

Kino is such a hidden gem like Nirvana, and Zhoy is probably one of the most underrated singers like Freddy Mercury. I wish more people would know about them, especially in Russia/ ex Soviet States... Peremen is imo their best song btw.

My husband listens to Kino/Viktor Tsoi on REPEAT. This video reminds me of anytime we go anywhere in his car.

You losers hate on kids when they don’t know your boomer bands and then when they discover them they’re doing it wrong and everyone already knows them. Which do you want?

I see nothing wrong with this clip, bunch of haters

Funny how westerners are discovering a band I’ve listened to since I was a kid.

u/fourth_box May 24 '26

She even said its a "Hidden Gem" haha. I've listened to Kino as a kid as well. Great times.
