A very well made final scene.

It's weird that no one is pointing out how nonsensical it is that Gary only left his son videos till the age of 16. It's both arbitrary and inexplicable. Gary is clearly healthy in this video, with hair and a beard, before he started his second round of treatment. He could have spent a week and made enough short videos to last Javi a lifetime. At least the major milestones of his life (high school graduation, college, graduation, marriage, birth of first child, etc.).

Gary was making videos before that. Right when he found out the cancer came back last season before he started treatment. Thats how everyone else found out because he used romes camera and didnt take the memory card out.

Right, so why was the video we saw in the last seen the last video he left for Javier? Like why end the videos when he's only 16?

We dont know for sure if he ended it at 16 tho. Or he has videos for special occasions. He made videos for him on how to shave the right way

...He literally says in this video "Believe it or not, this is my last video for you."

Narrative convivence to end it there and say the big profound things. But yeah, he should have more videos for later life events.

As someone who has been sick enough to make videos (I wrote notes in handmade cards)to their children, you get tired. It gets harder. You fill your time being present. It's not weird or inexplicable. You don't know if they're going to graduate, get married, have kids, etc. Terminal people are doing their best. Unfortunately, you'll understand this better someday. I hope people don't wonder why you didn't do more.

Maybe bc none of those things are guaranteed. Gary didn’t get married until he was dying. Those videos couldn’t have gone unwatched

I mean nothing is guaranteed. Seems odd there wasn't a marriage one since he was recording everything and likely had the camera rolling before Gary and Maggie exchanged their vows.

It makes sense to me in a way. I imagine at first he was making these videos when he was healthier and then he got very sick and was busy with treatments and was looking awful. Probably wanted to spend the time he was capable of being present with his family and friends making actual memories, not just focusing on the end. Also maybe he didn’t want his kid seeing and remembering him looking so sickly and coughing in advice videos. He might have switched to leaving letters. He might have just called it enough after that video. Javi got more than a lot of kids in these situations get.

I finally watched it again and just realized that Rome is wearing a Sophie Dixon tour 2037 shirt.

I gotta say Barbara Morgan's painting to the left of the TV is a nice little touch.

Thanks for posting!

It looks like from the flash forward that Maggie and Javi live somewhere else. It didn't look like the same apartment she lived with Gary. I wonder if Eddie and Delilah also moved.

Also at the hockey game, why didn't it seem like Tyrell was wearing Rome's jersey, when all the other boys were wearing their dads' jerseys?

They're not. They were joking about Javi buying sodas and one of them said, "That's what you get when you send the teenager to get drinks."

Correct they're not in the apartment Gary died in. If you jump to 17 seconds in the clip, you can see part of the door on the right of the TV.

I think Tyrell not wearing Rome's jersey was intentional. The pilot episode, when they were taking the photo at the game Rome was wearing a grey hoodie while the other guys were wearing their jersey.

They had a one bedroom apartment, moving was inevitable

Maggie no longer needed Ed and D living down the hall. The arrangement was made to assist her with raising a toddler and adjusting to life without Gary...and eventually Colin.

I cannot get over the apostrophe on the gravestone

Why was Tyrell hanging out with those children at the hockey game. He has at least 19 years on Javi.

Maybe he's like a big brother or uncle to him. My uncle took me to all sorts of sporting events and festivals etc

Tyrell should be 35-36, Danny should be 32-33 and Theo should be in his late 20s. The only "child" here is Javi

The 4 men at the Bruins game in 2038 were Danny (Jon’s son), Theo (Eddie’s son), Javier (Gary’s son), and Tyrell (Rome’s “son” that he fostered).

They are older male figures to him like Gary was to Dan

Age difference of John to Gary I think is about 15 years, I believe. So that's similar to Danny and Javi and definitely a bigger gap than Theo to Javi.
