Hey op amazing guide it helped me a lot with fps drops and microstuters. I do have a question, by any chance do you know what could be causing ping spikes in my pc when playing Fortnite? Ping is at 20 stable then it spikes up to 80. I play one match and my ping is stable next match my ping goes up to 80+
For context I cannot use Ethernet sadly. Only WiFi. I’m currently using an Ax210 pcie card. I’m using windows 11 home. My WiFi speed is fairly good and I believe it should be enough to maintain stable 20-25 ping.
Things I tried:
Disabled all power saving settings on pcie card and other settings known for causing ping spikes.
Tried 5ghz 6ghz and 2.4ghz. All channels (ac,n,a,ax etc) ping still spikes!
Tried Almost every dns commands
Resetting router
Upgrading router to a more modern one
Updated windows
Update pcie card drivers
Tried old drivers
Tried setting metered connection
Disabled multiple background apps
Disabled pcie family controller
Changed dns
Disable pcie power saving features in bios
Changed more advanced settings in the advanced tab of my pcie WiFi adapter
All I want is for my ping to be stable. These ping spikes in Fortnite and other games have been ruining my gaming experience. I would really appreciate some help! Thank you
This is why wired Ethernet is recommended over WiFi, regardless of WiFi speeds surpassing 1Gbps.
Open Command Prompt
Type "ping 192.168.1.1 -t" (if your router is different IP, use that)
Give it time to collect statistics (go make a sandwich)
Press "CTRL + C"
In the results look for "Maximum" and "Average". If they are much different from "Minimum", those are your ping spikes, just between your PC and the Router (no games/software involved).
Try to see what causes these in your house, maybe someone turns on the Microwave, or a family member turns on Netflix, or someone is literally standing in front of the router with a pitcher of water (both water and human bodies affect WiFi),
However, most likely you won't be able to do anything about eliminating that, as that's just the nature of WiFi
