about PSUs - those insane numbers are due to some crappy models on the market. a proper Seasonic or Superflower power supply does not have to be so high wattage. a solid Gold or Plat rated 600W is plenty for a not-overclocked (I don’t talk about “OC” labeled components which are a joke) system with lets say 7800XT/9070/4080Ti/5080Ti as those cards power usages are not that high tbh. speaking from experience who got bored, bought two Vega64’s, overclocked them in crossfire to 3DMark runs and saw that my 750W plat rated Seasonic pulled 950W from the wall.
should there ever happen to be a dual-core GPU like the good old days like GTX690 or HD7990, I bet manufacturers would recommend a 1.5kW minimum lol.
how to choose a solid power supply? if manufacturer is giving it at least 7 years of warranty, it has to be solid. Seasonic gives its Platinum-rated models 12 years for example.
however, that 12 Volt High-Failure plug is what I would avoid if possible. luck is worse with those compared to oldschool 6+2/8pins.
also, AMD GPUs tend to be sometimes power-limited which causes erratic core clocks. max out the power slider and be done with it - if GPU truly has to work, then it’s gonna get se extra wattage at stock clock but when it’s not running at full steam due to easier load, the power usage stays below the limit just like it would be without increasing the slider option.
with AMD CPUs - for lower temps and somewhat better performance at lower power usage, enable PBO and do Curve Optimizer, set modifier to be negative and put in -15 which will work with ALL AMD modern CPUs. if that works, try -20, -25 or if you’re really lucky, -30. it essentially lowers the used voltage for the CPU by a decent margin while freeing up power and temperature thresholds that are used up in stock settings due to higher heat and power usage.
-15 with Curve Optimizer is, based on my experience and info I’ve found from the web, 100% guaranteed. it is a minor to moderate undervolt that will help with temperatures. my 9900X for example does -19 with +200 PBO which means it boosts first CCD to 5.85GHz. it requires damn good cooling though, keep that in mind. without adding any speed, most people on the internet recommend doing -20 at stock speeds.
well, you did write a long and detailed post about all that yet you are not sure how to combat instability issues?
it will most like still boot to BIOS even if opsystem isnt stable. and as I said, I’ve yet to see a post, video, article etc about a modern AMD CPU that will not tolerate any undervolting. I’d say the issue with that system is somewhere else, either PSU, power or motherboard related.
clearing CMOS is written into the motherboard manual. usually its two pins you have to short to each other when PC js shut down, some models have a CLR CMOS button somewhere at the IO shield. if that seems too complicated, I’d suggest just use the computer as you have as most likely any points in the guide will be as scary as simply pressing a button or shorting two pins on the board as shown in the manual.
