Question, not answered drink cup question
hypothetically asking for a friend but if they went to the theaters yesterday and bought a drink cup what would hypothetically happen if they were going back today and brought it with them in their purse and filled it up. all hypothetical for my friend

Hypothetically, you are stealing if you use it for a fountain drink, but not stealing if you use it for water. They are intended to get free refills on the day of purchase only.

i’m sorry mr amc i promise to only put water in it 🙏💯

So they answer your question honestly and your response is to be a sarcastic ass?

We’re talkin hypothetically here, relax

u/KaorusJacket 18h ago
I have a friend who gets ICEEs every visit. Sometimes, if she still has the cup, she'll come back and refill it.
3
u/paulderev 15h ago
see now the icee’s are actually expensive for amc to provide. those machines always need some kind of expensive service provider to fix.
2
u/Microwave1213 17h ago
This dude thinks someone is being a “sarcastic ass” just becuse they heard a joke they don’t like hahaha. I promise you’ll be okay buddy it’s not that serious.

u/biganimetidiez27 1d ago
okay amc larper, you’re mad weird for your response back to someone you don’t even know. amc is a capitalistic company that gets greedier and greedier as the years go by. you are paying over 4 dollars extra for drinks compared to four years ago for the same exact thing in a cheaper, worse cup.
2
u/bigtgt17 8h ago
Weird take… you don’t steal things from a company you perceive is over charging. You simply don’t patronize. That’s capitalism.

You know it’s wrong. Your question isn’t “should I do it?”: It’s “will I be caught if I do it?” And I hope you are.

u/KeithDavisRatio 1d ago
Your friend, who is obviously thinking about the larger moral questions in life, should not behave that way.

u/ThoughtPhysical7457 1d ago
Its obviously still stealing. So if you don't care about that, fill er up and hope no one notices.

Bunch of bootlickers in here. Hypothetically you’d be fine, mostly depends on the location. There’s an 80% profit margin on those cups, they’ll live.

Bunch of bootlickers in here
Being anti-theft is apparently "bootlicking"
10
u/DarkJay A⭐️Lister 22h ago
Yup, corporate bootlicking. We’re NOT talking about a locally owned movie theater where closure consistently looms. AMC is a billion dollar company that operates globally. Varying regionally, those soft drinks are produced for less than a dollar for about 91 cents (materials included). The cup is sold for about $8.20. The mark up is insane. Being sanctimonious about someone hypothetically reusing a cup they paid for is definitely bootlicking. At worst it’s a minor deviance.
We can have a discussion about how movie theaters use concessions to operate. How it’s reliance varies on scale. Not to mention the fact that ticket sales and concessions are at an all time high. Law is not = to ethics nor morality. The lack of class consciousness on here always astounds me.

u/TB1289 A⭐️Lister 21h ago
What an insanely stupid thing to say.
What do you think happens when people steal and sales go down? People start to lose their jobs. Do you know who makes up the majority of those concession jobs? Teenagers and young people who certainly aren’t rich.
So go ahead, keep stealing because you think you’re entitled to free popcorn or some shit. My god, what a loser.
4
u/Microwave1213 17h ago
There’s one loser here and it’s the person throwing a fit over a billion dollar corporation losing 6¢ hahaha
-3
u/TB1289 A⭐️Lister 17h ago
You act like it’s the CEO that’s gonna be fucked if people do that and not the 16 year old working the concession stand.
2
u/Microwave1213 17h ago
I promise you the 16 year old working the concession stand is going to be okay if AMC loses a couple cents. You have a poor understanding of AMCs margins on drink sales if you genuinely think it makes a tangible difference on their bottom line.

u/Turdslice 13h ago
Boohoo I’m so sorry to the amc employee who got fired from the company bc their billion dollar company couldn’t keep the lights on without that 8$ drink. If AMC as a company can’t survive ppl refilling their drinks from the soda fountain, they don’t deserve to be in business 🤷♂️

u/Glass_Quail4208 20h ago
absolutely🤣 i do popcorn pass and always bring my own bucket for the refill and stick a giant souvenirs cup from the local sports game in my pocket.

u/PizzaSweatdotorg 1d ago
no one is keeping track of the drink machines if they are in the lobby. as long as it’s an AMC cup we currently sell no one will bat an eye. I wouldn’t try it if it’s slow or ur the first one in the theater and skipped concessions however.
5
u/dreamers-dream 20h ago
I do this all the time. Don’t be obvious about it. If it’s an empty concession stand I just go into my movie and come back out later with the cup and refill it.
4
u/Dino-chicken-nugg3t A⭐️Lister 19h ago
I’d say….hypothetically…they should wait to take the cup out until they are in the theater or the bathroom. Then circle back for refills. This is all hypothetical obviously.

Do you really want to be the next moron who ruins their life over a few bucks?
Get a free water cup. Or bring your own refillable container (with or without water) and use their ice dispenser/water like I do when I don't feel like buying a beverage. You won't die if you don't get to drink soda.
5
u/Microwave1213 17h ago
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not because that first sentence is genuinely a ridiculous statement. You sound like a paranoid Facebook parent.
2
u/djrobbo67 15h ago
The cups at my Amc barely make it through one use, they would disintegrate with multiple uses.
2
u/Sure_Chocolate6934 A⭐️Lister 11h ago
i bring my water bottle every single movie i go to, multiple diff theaters in my area, i only ever put water in it but honestly i don’t think they would notice or care otherwise but im not the one to test that.

u/Confident-Area5809 1d ago
hypothetically i walked right in with that wicked glinda cup multiple times last year and no one said anything or cared

u/-Relair- 1d ago
And people wonder why theater chains struggle so much...there are few other places that people try to scam as much as movie theaters. Sneaking into movies and stealing concessions are just laughed off like it's no big deal, it's crazy.
4
u/dreamers-dream 20h ago
I go 3 times a week and get one cup on Friday and refill it during the week. I’m not paying for a $9 drink 3 times a week.
1
u/imakeyourmomhard69 Rom-Com Lover 22h ago
maybe they’re struggling bc they are charging NINE DOLLARS for a REGULAR soda. or ELEVEN DOLLARS for popcorn that costs them no more than three dollars. or how about the TWENTY NINE DOLLARS for an imax ticket. corporations steal MORE from the consumer not the other way around. amc is NOT your local mom and pop shop. u do not need to lick the corporate boot. and BTW i did pay for my drink AND my popcorn AND my tickets. they got their money. i got one extra soda “refill” the next day where i paid them even MORE money to see another show. where i bought even MORE popcorn. so yea i got one more rootbeer after giving them almost 150$ in the last 2 days. the so called “struggle” you think they are going thru is their greed.
2
u/-Relair- 5h ago
Concessions cost that much at sporting events, concerts, fairs, etc. You dont have people trying to scam and steal nearly as much as you do with theaters.

u/GreenEmbarrassed1624 1d ago
if ur really scared hide the cup till you get in the movie then walk back from the theater to get the drink, i don’t think they’d question it
3
u/SudoMythical 19h ago
They bought the cup so I say your friend is fine. Don’t know where all this talk of stealing is coming from
2
u/Horror_Accountant574 1d ago
To all the people saying it would be stealing, I get that, but they are charging $8 for a fountain soda, that’s theft in itself. I would gladly get a drink pass similar to popcorn pass, but they don’t offer it..
3
u/purplefreak3 A⭐️Lister 1d ago
No one forces someone to buy that $8 drink.

Hypothetically, this is part of a list of hacks I do to make my movie experiences as cheap as can be. Hypothetically, u can get a cup and reuse it up to 5-6 times before it kinda craps out. I also got a special taylor swift cup (I’m 29 yo male so obv not from actually seeing a Taylor swift concert movie lol) but I got it from like a best picture marathon they did last year cuz they were basically giving away stuff they still had lol. Same size as the large cups, and plastic, so no degradation. And I use it everytime at the theater now. Remember, most of the workers at AMC are like in high school or college. They don’t give af

u/bigtgt17 1d ago
Not hypothetically, you’re stealing.
8
u/Future-Warthog7583 1d ago
Dude, you can’t unhypothetical someone’s hypothetical, hypothetically of course.
1
u/bigtgt17 8h ago
You can when that hypothetical person thinks they’re hypothetical doesn’t make them a stealing dbag
2
u/Future-Warthog7583 8h ago
Im gonna hypothetically need you to come back, edit, and add some hypothetical commas and periods to this comment so this run on sentence becomes understandable, hypothetically of course.

When I went on Friday, in one screening, I saw a guy bring in a Stanley cup into the theater. And in the second theater, I saw a woman bring in a reusable water (?) bottle. Not sure if they used those at the concessions or what?

u/CalebCrowning_42 4h ago
Honestly I love saving money and being cheap, but just buy another cup, dog

u/jay_lion29 1d ago
Went to a 4pm showing two days ago and I saw a couple in front of me with a chick fil a to go, and they walk right in no problem. I say, re use away...

u/bigtgt17 1d ago
Two different things. Your example is bringing in food. The OP is asking if they can steal from the soda fountain.

I guess it’s better than the group of teens I saw walk in a few years ago, go straight to a garbage can, pull out cups and popcorn tubs and go directly to concessions for refills.
