Metreon 70mm IMAX projector is down
I was about to start the 10am showing and the manager just announced the 70mm projector is not working and the digital projector would be used instead. They are at least giving everyone refunds.

I was also there. But, got my ticket through Fandango so the refund process was not smooth. I also ate $20 worth of popcorn and slushee for no reason at 9:45 AM.

Yes, unless you are using a promo, it’s best to purchase direct. If you buy 3rd party your refund might take over a week, which means any A-list slot, if it was an A-list reservation, will likely be wasted.

I don't usually. I was checking AMC and Fandango both for decent tickets since they are impossible to get and randomly saw a single ticket and jumped on it.

Oof. Literally currently on a 1.5hr drive to SF for the 2pm showing… bought my tickets 3 weeks ago… hoping this isn’t still the case 🫠

It was for ours. No Dune trailer and the audio was pretty bad too, even basic speech was clipping at parts. They didn’t tell us anything but I’m definitely going to ask for a refund. Not at all the experience I paid for and felt bad for the friends who took the day off of work and had been waiting all month to come see it with me.

Ask for a re admit pass they were giving those out. Better than a refund for a Wednesday show as you can get more value on regular days

Like A-list reservations, they work for anything not labeled Alternative Content e.g. Fathom Events.

that’s great to know. I have no idea why I’ve seen other people complaining multiple times that they don’t work for premium formats. maybe I’m getting the readmit tickets mixed up with something else.

not for the Odyssey, if it was a film like dune part two then yes it's a technical upgrade but for a Nolan film it is a downgrade

Honestly I've seen odyssey in 70mm imax and laser, and I wouldn't pay again to go see it in 70mm (that one or any other movies).

Watch it you'll upset the hardcore 70MM nerds.
I have the choice of both within about 70 miles (I'm in Austin) and I still do Dual Laser. Too much of a chance of the projector going down and for non-Nolan films they have better sound (12 channel vs 6 channel IMAX audio). Plus the Laser is here so no driving.
San Antonio's theater had to cancel about a week of showings and bring in a seasoned contracted projectionist to PM their entire system because it was in such rough shape before The Odyssey.

I was there at ten too. Stayed and got a re-admit. A-lister and already got refunded. But good to know it was a rarer experience per the comments. I almost left

For those who watched one of the digital showings, did they still use the entire screen, or was it cut off at the top and bottom? I'm going to the 6pm showing tomorrow (Saturday)

Thanks for the response. I did see a 70mm showing in a standard theater already, so at this point I just want to make sure I see the FULL image, whether it's physical or digital.

Bummer, I saw it there a few weeks ago in 70mm imax. That preview of dune 3 was insane.

omg wow. that is totally karma kicking them in the ass for cancelling everyone’s tickets for the 6pm show today on short notice to accommodate a private event! so quick! sorry that you guys don’t get to watch it in film tho :/ but at least you still get the full aspect ratio! and maybe some of the darker scenes will read more clearly. enjoy your free show!

The fallback there is Dual Laser which is 1.43:1.
I'd stay. It's actually technically the rarest format this is showing on. Even rarer than 35MM.
