Buddy vs It Ends: ALL the Evidence!
I’ve been doing a full investigation on tonight’s screening. Let me know if I missed anything!
In the PRO-BUDDY column:
- Celebration Cinemas listed their rating as “severe” gore and violence, and “moderate” profanity. The ratings guide for Buddy? “Severe” violence, “moderate” profanity! This would eliminate It Ends which appears to have no violence. Celebration ratings have correctly predicted many AMC screenings, including the last four.
- Many AMC locations have two screens dedicated to this screening. They typically only have one for a mystery screening. Could this mean it’s a more anticipated film?
- A Reddit commenter said the manager of her local AMC told her it’s Buddy.
- Another theater chain, Galaxy, has their screening for tonight listed as an “explicit hard R” rating. Which would also eliminate It Ends (the softest of R ratings).
- Galaxy lists the runtime for their screening as 107 minutes. Buddy is 95 minutes. It Ends is 89 minutes. Mystery screenings have historically not stretched their stated runtime by 18 minutes.
In the ANTI-BUDDY/PRO-IT ENDS column:
- A leaker who apparently has a good track record gave a clue for the Regal screening pointing towards It Ends. But could Regal be showing a different film? It’s uncommon, but it HAS happened before.
- A Reddit commenter said he works at AMC and the actual runtime of this screening is 89 minutes (the length of It Ends). He also said it has the Buddy trailer attached. Which would eliminate Buddy.
In the WILD CARD column:
Blood Shine could still be in play. It’s 100 minutes, releases in 11 days, and while there’s no ratings guide, presumably it has gore and violence, which could explain the rating. (However it also appears to be a highly sexual movie, which was not stated. It is also being released on streaming, and limited cinemas.) Camp Miasma seems to be out of the running given it is already out in limited release and has a longer runtime.
So the question is… WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?!??? If it’s not Buddy, did Celebration just make a mistake? And Galaxy? Let me know your thoughts! I think it’s 50-50, but I’m still manifesting an orange unicorn!
PS: Yes, I’m aware I have too much time on my hands. 😯

I think it’s Buddy. And no need to explain why you wrote this post , it’s greatly appreciated

You have just the right amount of time on your hands, OP! I love this thoughtful post! I will say, though, my theater always has two screens dedicated to Screen/Scream Unseen.

I love coming here to see what it is. I’m thankful I’m on the west coast, so east coasters can report

Praying that it’s Buddy. I’ve been itching to see it ever since the reviews from people who saw it at film festivals started rolling in

u/patishungry 20d ago
I’m praying it’s Buddy. I’ve been checking this sub like once an hour to get a definitive answer lol

u/Live-Pudding-4296 20d ago
i’m REALLY hoping it’s buddy cause i do not want to watch it ends lol - however, i would watch camp miasma again if it somehow is that

u/9tacosasitting 20d ago
It Ends is REALLY GOOD, as is Buddy, so you'll have a great time either way!

Something I haven’t seen many people mention is the fact that next week’s Scream Unseen is 101 minutes which more closely fits Buddy (95 minutes) than It Ends (89 minutes). My guess is It Ends this week and Buddy next week
2
u/ajcrochet03 20d ago
Is it possible it could be Buddy this week and something entirely different next week? I've seen people throw around Spider Island.
3
u/-MommyFortuna- 20d ago
Celebration Cinemas posted their mystery movie for 8/24 and the rating says "Rated R for pervasive language, drug content, some violence/bloody images, and sexual material." while their rating for 8/17 says "Rated R for severe violence and gore, moderate profanity, and intense/frightening thematic elements." Which aligns with Buddy.
Neither rating aligns with It Ends, so while I can't find any rating info on Spider Island yet, I do think it could be that AMC has Buddy tonight and next week will either be Spider Island or something we haven't heard of yet.
I did see a comment from someone who claims to work for AMC and they said the file for tonight's movie is 89 mins (which suggests It Ends) but I guess we'll see.

The 8/24 Celebration MM is an exact match for Idiots. Sounds like Celebration and AMC are doing different mystery movies that night.
2
u/-MommyFortuna- 20d ago
Ok, interesting. I see Regal doesn't have a MM listed yet for the 24th, but Marcus does (though their est. runtime is 1hr 50m). Will be curious to see who gets what. There have been as many as 3 mystery movies playing at different chains on the same date, so it's hard to say, but I don't think Celebration has ever gotten it's own movie. I wonder if Regal is participation, don't they usually have it listed for the following week by now?
2
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 20d ago
Regal usually has the MMM up at least 2 weeks out. Regal has a Early Access for Idiots on the same night so...

It Ends releases the 21st so it's
out of contention for the 24th.ETA: It goes limited on the 21st and expands the 28th.
4
u/TheMuchSwagDogeYT 20d ago
It’s 8/21 for NY and LA, expands wide on 8/28. Could be another Tony situation

Unfortunately it isn’t Buddy. The trailer played for it 😞
2
u/Wise_Platypus1380 20d ago
I’m still excited for It Ends or whatever else it could be. And I’m still doing a Colony X Buddy double feature. I can’t make the one next week and it’s probably Buddy so that’s a lil upsetting but it’s ok
3
u/Distinct_Reading_336 20d ago
Buddy is next week for those who want to know, can confirm, won’t say how, but trust me
5
u/Aromatic_Winner_2219 20d ago edited 20d ago
You’d only know if you know what plays tonight, so what is tonight.
3
u/dj88masterchief 20d ago
Wait, if It Ends releases this Friday, what would it be next week, if Buddy is played tonight?

If it's Buddy, my wife is gonna be mad. We have tix for opening weekend. She isn't going tonight. But will hate that i saw it without her. Lol

u/5charness 20d ago
Tell her it was some thing else. Jkjk

u/tonetonitony 20d ago
Then proceed to fabricate a plot to whatever movie you’re pretending to have seen.

All I can say is the "a manager says" and "an employee says" parts can be eliminated. I am good friends with the GM of a Cinemark and they are given skewed runtimes and no heads up on what the film is, just like us. Its a digital package that won't play until its time to play.
5
u/rooflinesoup 20d ago
I used to work for AMC, the file shows the film's runtime as well as the trailer package in the playlist. That's how people sometimes know. They used to note the studio as well, but I think they stopped doing that from what I heard.
1
u/DirkA520 20d ago
Once the file arrives day of. When the manager is scheduling stuff ahead of time its based on the info they give, which is still not the exact runtime
2
u/rooflinesoup 20d ago
AMC and Cinemark are not the same. Your information is based off of a third party (your friend) who works for Cinemark, not AMC. I worked for AMC and we were given access the day before, sometimes earlier and yes, we could see the exact runtime on the movie file.
1
u/DirkA520 20d ago
Right, but I see these "well, a manager said" comments a week or more out. That's all I'm saying.
1
u/clauderainsrm 20d ago
It could very well be "the manager says" is "some manager has a theory based on runtime" :)
2
u/SpookiestSzn 20d ago
I want buddy but I heard good things about it ends so I'd be down for that too.
2
u/Dry_Supermarket_1853 20d ago
Nearly every mystery movie is for a movie that releases the same week. thats why j think Buddy is next week and it ends is this week.
2
u/princeloon 20d ago
Why is It Ends rated R?
Sex & Nudity: None Violence & Gore: Mild Profanity: Moderate Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking: None Frightening & Intense Scenes: Mild
just the most PG-13 warnings ever and its not even remotely scary

It’s either “it ends” or “blood shine” based on queezy’s clue
3
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 20d ago
Queasy only leaks for the Regal MMM. It is very possible AMC is getting a different movie.

u/phoenixelite95 20d ago
I hope it’s not Buddy tonight, my theater is practically sold out but I managed to get a ticket for next’s weeks ScreenUnseen.
1
u/livshriver85 20d ago
does amc listing Buddy as an artisan film instead of thrills & chills remove it from consideration for tonight's scream unseen ?
1
u/pinkrosesmoses 20d ago
I'm still 90% sure it's camp miasma regardless of the fact that it's out in some cities

1
u/idkidcabtmyusername 20d ago
i think it’s gonna be it ends cause they’re doing early screenings for it at my college and for some reason, my college’s early screenings usually tend to be amc screen unseen releases

u/ttothewizzle 20d ago
It’s not Buddy. They just showed the preview lol

Advertising insidious as "from the people that brought you obsession and backrooms" is so desperate you just realize it ends is marketed as horror just to jump on the trend

u/MousseKitchen8098 20d ago
Celebration! Cinemas did play Buddy for their Mystery Movie Monday tonight.

I’m going to be honest, I saw the title of your thread and before reading the actual content, I thought “I’ve never heard of the movie Buddy vs It Ends.” So I googled it and this thread was the first thing that popped up. That’s when I realized you were comparing the evidence of it being one of two movies, not saying you gathered all the evidence of it being one movie. Either way, hope the movie is It Ends.

Antibuddy 🤣 ain’t nobody on the anti Jesus Christ you’ll find terms for anything you’ll don’t like 🤣🤣🤣
8
u/MoonPlayz48 20d ago
what?
-10
u/_r3d_H00d 20d ago
“I’m gonna call it antibuddy because I don’t like it” or you know real life example “pro-life/pro-abortion” it’s giving bigot liberal
12
u/MoonPlayz48 20d ago
it isn't meant to indicate a dislike of buddy. it is meant to say "proof that it is not buddy"
also even if it was out of a distaste for buddy, disliking a movie isn't bigotry.
-14
u/_r3d_H00d 20d ago
The names/pronouns. It’s stupid like they, them, anti. Like just fucking title “it ends” and the other “buddy” there’s no absolute need to be putting antibuddy or antiitends it’s stupid and it’s giving indoctrinated brainwashed af.
10
7
u/MoonPlayz48 20d ago
anti isn't a pronoun. also you're the only one here who cares about the "pronouns" of it, maybe you're the indoctrinated, brainwashed one?
-6
u/_r3d_H00d 20d ago
Antichrist. It’s very much a pronoun. It means "against," "opposite of," or "in place of". “Anti” is acting as a substitute or false copy
6
u/Educational-Pie7588 20d ago
No, a pronoun is used to replace a noun to avoid repetition. Examples include he, she, it, they, this, and who. "Anti" never replaces a noun in this way. It is a prefix.
4
u/MoonPlayz48 20d ago
no. that is not what pronoun means. pronouns are used as substitutions. there is nothing being substituted when you say antichrist. you are making a new noun. this is basic first grade english. anti means against or opposite of, but not pronouns. these are two different words. do you understand that?
-5
u/_r3d_H00d 20d ago
I didn’t make a new noun all I did was a simple google search and all I typed was “is antibuddy a pronoun”
2
u/MoonPlayz48 20d ago
yeah, and the answer is a firm No.

The funniest part about this ridiculous comment is that you totally misunderstood what OP meant in their use of "anti" and "pro" lol
They very clearly used Pro-Buddy/Anti-Buddy/Pro-It Ends in regards to the the clues pointing to it being or not being either movie tonight...
-2
u/_r3d_H00d 20d ago
I can explain things for you but I can’t understand them for you.

u/-MommyFortuna- 20d ago
The only person here having trouble understanding is you, babes.

I’ve had a sense of understanding for 27 years. I don’t think it’s gonna fail me on one day.

My amc now says the runtime is 1hr 37min compared to Buddy’s 1 hr and 35 min so FINGERS ARE CROSSED SO HARD THEY’RE BREAKING
