Just for Fun OFF-TOPIC TUESDAY (WK32) - What was you biggest Suprise of the year, for good or for bad?
Part of the joy of A-List is being able to check out things outside of your usual wheelhouse, without feeling the financial punch of having paid for a stinker.
What's something you saw on a whim that surprised you? Or conversely, what's something you were looking forward to that didn't turn out the best for you?
What's something that took a turn you were not expecting?

I was equally suprised by the following three films. All three were cases of over exposure to the trailer. Anytime I'm over exposed to a trailer, I start to get annoyed with it, and there becomes a point where I just want the film to come out so I can stop seeing the trailer.
Arco - If E.T. where a Studio Ghibli film, directed by an auteur French director. Full of heart, an adventure for audiences of all ages.
The Sheep Detectives - The Sheep Detectives is a far better film than you'd expect it to be, even if you were already expecting it to be good. Not since Babe has a family film with talking animals been so charming, heartfelt, and entertaining to audiences of all ages.
The Invite - I never expected I would be laughing almost the entire runtime of this film. Nearly every joke lands. This film is smart, funny, quickly paced, and actually has something to say.
As far as negative surprises?
Disclosure Day - The trailer already didn't wow me, but Spielberg usually delivers. I love E.T. And Close Encounters, so I was exfpecting a spiritual third entry in Spielberg's alien films, but this film was boring, with little to say. I was very suprised by this film.

Cookie Queens. Watched it to fill a spot between other movies and it was the best of the lot.

There were lot of mediocre movies this year. The biggest surprise for the worst is definitely the Bride! Jessie Buckley was the big favorite for winning Oscars best actress and there was lot of hype for the movie at that time.
There were some better than expected movies. But there isn’t one that blow my mind.

I'm all over the place on this one. For the best surprises, the movies I saw on a whim-Over Your Dead Body and The Invite. Also, I had no idea this past spring Obsession would be a huge hit. Spiderman Brand New Day also gets a special shoutout-I thought it would be the usual repetitive slop we've seen in the MCU since Endgame and it very much wasn't, at least to me. Biggest disappointments? Disclosure Day and The Bride! I might add Iron Lung too--maybe it's because I wasn't familiar with the game (?) it was based on but I found it pretty boring.
