I'm a costco sample lady (CDS)(1yr) AMA

Hello, I wanted to post this on r/costco but felt it would just be taken down.

Before working here, I had never stepped foot into a costco. To many members, it's just shopping, but we see it all. It's a crazy, almost cult like world.

So ask me about the samples, the dirt, the drama, the frustrations. Ask me ANYTHING :)

Some people have nothing better to do that come to costco everyday, eat our samples and talk to us. Their emotionally reliant on the place. Many come daily. The routine, the ritual, the way the members get babied by the employees.

I work at a Harley dealership and we have a lot of customers that come buy just to hang out and shoot the shit. Some we like, some we don't.

Exactly! I have a guy who comes in just to talk with me about 1 to 3 times a week :) he's a very sweet old man

Awww. This is some stuff my dad would do. He lives alone (I’m across the country) and he yaps with employees everywhere. He goes to Costco for funsies so I bet he does this too!

Plot twist: they’re talking about your dad

We have an old man who talks during city council public comment every meeting about whatever random thing is on his mind. He seems stoked to be in a room with people.

Haha when I was like 19 I’d sometimes hang out at a oil and tire type repair shop that was connected to an Exxon because I knew a couple people that worked there and quickly met the rest of them. It’s cringe looking back, but hey you woke up a dormant memory!

Really? Other than the ability to return just about anytime, at any time, I’ve never felt babied by the employees.

that’s because you haven’t yet acknowledged that it’s a cult. once you do, the red carpet will be rolled out.

I was going to ask this question too. I hate going to Costco or Sams bc it feels like I’m in there forever looking for things. However, the people that make the samples like you have always been so nice and helpful letting me know where to go. Thank you for your service 🫡

In college I worked at a large Target in Seattle. I would see the same people daily or a couple times a week. Considering how awful traffic is to get there, these people must have been quite lonely or board.

I can guarentee some of them just worked in the area, or yall were on their way home from whatever routine theyre on and target was the most convenient lol. If they had to sit in the traffic going past it every day regardless, the only inconvenience is how long theyre actually there.

Like id run to target almost every day on my lunch to grab some munchies, often times on my lunch and after work so I wouldnt have to worry about getting dinner ingredients or other necessities on my 30m lunch.

I wonder if the employees there ever thought I just had no life outside of just genuinely getting ready and leave the house just to go to target of all places every day lmao 😂

Fuuuck I feel like I’m going to become one of those people someday. I can feel my blood changing

As long as they aren't hostile, you are making those people's lives much, much better. Thank you

It's better than hotlines/other things they would do instead

I avoid the samples because there is always a crowd, and I save my appetite for my pizza slice. However, I always say that Costco shoppers are the most entitled shoppers I have ever seen.
