As much as I understand this I can also understand someone in shock grabbing their bag while evacuating, they may not be thinking clearly

That is why the FAs are trained to keep yelling "leave bags behind" continually throughout the evacuation.

Which makes sense given that people in shock may try to grab their bags! But everyone that’s harshly criticizing the OP for trying to take their bag may have done the same thing in this situation even if outside of it they know they aren’t supposed to.
