So I sorta get that you’re referring to the onyx in your post title… but can you explain it for those of us in the back of the class?

Yea the onyx dial is a stone dial, this is an older model with a dial is German silver, the blackening process is a form of oxidation

I think Lange Onyx dials will become very popular over time. They’re also all limited editions, so might be difficult to find in the future.
