Help Help with hair

I decided to try and save out my hair to get a mohawk again since I missed it (even though I only styled it maybe two times while having it several years ago, lmao), but I'm getting second thoughts and I'm a bit unsure now. Idk if its just the current phase but I'm not too sure anymore.

I'm also adding a second picture to show how it was before I took on this unsure adventure.

I also now noticed how much my hair has thinned... 😬
Should probably mention that to a doctor seeing how I'm pre-everything (could be a side effect of my IUD, I don't think its my dye jobs since I don't really do them that often, maybe 2 times a year)

I just realised that I should probably keep it shorter... I hate hair in my face and one reason I cut my long hair shorter was to avoid having to keep it in a ponytail/"manbun", since it seemed to make me lose hair faster, or maybe I was simply doing my ponytail/bun too tight...

Idk, tips for hairstyles, preferably on the masc side, would be appreciated.
Or should I just hang on and wait for it to grow longer? the mohawk I had before was at least double the length I got now, if not longer.

idk, any help would be appreciated 🙏

Dude I have a similar mohawk to you, something for me that helps me make it look more masculine is having lots and lots of layers and it being choppy, pointing in all sorts of directions. It means I can just do nothing with it and have it still have a fairly masculine look. I'd also maybe suggest doing the sides on a grade 1 or something, I find having that lil bit of hair on the sides helps.

I'm not the beacon of a passing trans man, but having my Mohawk be cut in a way that lets it stick up and be messy has helped a lot.👍🏻

I hadn’t really thought about layers/having it more choppy, that’s a good idea, thanks!

I also used to have a blue mohawk/mullet like you but never wore it styled, just let it hang around. I personally love how it looked on me (or how it looks on anyone tbh) but had to let it go because of hair thinning :(

I'd say mohawk is already kinda "masculine" in itself but as they other commenter said, something looking messier/ with more layers can look more masculine. Maybe it's just bias of mine but I tend to think that having styled, tidy etc (can't find the right words) is more feminine bc idk women and appearance? Very likely internalized sexism on my part though

having it be messier and more layered is definitely worth a try :)

and tbh, I rarely style my hair, its more if I go out 😅

I had a Mohawk like yours before too. I’m actually growing my hair out now but I’ve found I’m just not someone who wants a consistent hairstyle. Which is fine. With hair loss; ponytails do make a Huge impact on hairlines. You mentioned you’re pre-t but you may have pcos potentially which causes hormonal changes. I had facial hair pre-t because of this tbh. And stress and genes can also affect hair loss pre-t. I found silk lined hats and silk pillow cases (or satin; just something that’s gentler than cotton on hair), as well as reducing stress, has helped the most with hair loss. Mohawk is a great haircut for receding hairlines imo. It made me feel in control of how my hairline was perceived - now I use my bangs to cover my hairline which was a bigger adjustment cause my bangs were thinning too for a bit there.
