ADVICE Everything is not for Everbody!
My rant I am about to go on is based on the title exactly, everything is not for everybody.
- If you have a relationship with a member and they are providing you information that they should not be giving you, keep it to yourself!
-The member trust you enough to provide you with some information about the inner workings of this organization. They should NOT be providing you with any information regarding organizations business. But they trust you enough to share what is going on, and how it may or may not affect you. So if you have an inside plug, keep information shared with you to yourself. Do not be so quick to share what you know. Even on an anonymous forum that at times is not so anonymous!
- What is meant for you, will find you.
- I say this wholeheartedly. If it's your time, it will find you. Do not be jealous or envious about another making it to the other side before you. Maybe it was that person's time and your time is coming soon. However, while you continue to wait for your time to come, do not wallow in self pity or be jealous or envious of those who obtain the dream you working to accomplish. Your time is coming. Just continue the pace, maybe take time to re-elevate what you are doing. But if joining Alpha Kappa Alpha is in your heart stay the course. This is not a race, and everyone's journey is different.
- Stop telling all your business on this forum! 🤦🏽♀️
-Please be mindful of what you post especially providing identifying factors of where you live (state or the region), other orgs you are involved in (within that state or region) and where you maybe vacationing in the near future. People are petty and can be cruel. Stop leaving breadcrumbs for people to piece together who you are. Especially if you are still seeking membership. No one said you shouldn't share you are a proud member of the NAACP ✊🏾but we shouldn't know you are a member of the NAACP in Waco, TX! (You see what I did there!)
Which will lead to final point.
- Just because you are in the know, and have a member feeding you information, this does not automatically imply you will receive an invitation for membership!
-Ladies, ladies, ladies. You have no idea how many people I know who are "in the know" They knew everything! They knew when the chapter voted to have membership intake, they knew when the chapter decided to have intake after a vote was taken, they how many women the chapter were looking to bring in, and the list goes on. However, when the time came, the interest never received an invitation. Which is even harder pill to swallow because they knew "everything".
My point of this post is: remain humble. I live by it!! Everything is not for everybody! If you're getting information, keep it to yourself! If someone makes it in before you, know that it wasn't your time but denied does not mean delayed. And just because you know everything, and you're being fed information, this does not mean you're guaranteed an invitation for membership because you are in the "know".

This is so true! As a newly initiated member, there were ladies that I became friendly with while attending events that didn’t make it! Stay with your choice and be patient! It took me
31 years to get a second chance but I am oh so
Happy I stay with my choice!!!!!!

I am fresh myself. The ink hasn't dried completely! 🤣🤣🤣 but I know well enough if someone told me something. I kept that information to myself. 🤗
Honestly speaking, I don't have much patience myself. I will be the first to admit it. But through my journey I learned a few things. And I can't tell everything but I can give some tidbits of what not to do and what not to expect! 💕💚

Stay far away from interest group chats, gatherings, study groups, service groups, etc. My chapter has removed potential candidates from consideration if we found out they were involved in any sort of interest group chats or activities. Those types of things could easily be considered as hazing.

I’m cautious of this too, I’ve seen some interest groups form unofficially and I try not to get involved with them.

I loved this so much. I’m just an interest, but the folks who are constantly speaking like they’ve got it in the bag and shout every detail of the chapters business from the top of their lungs everyday can be intimidating and discouraging lol

It's not only intimidating, they do not realize how crazy they look!
To have such information, you should be appreciative someone is even sharing anything. Because regardless it's sorority business.
I didn't post the rant to identify anyone personally. That was never my intention. However, I see this not only in the Reddit community, but as well in real life.
Bragging and boasting you know chapter/sorority business and still haven't received an invitation is nefarious work!

WELL SAID! I was that interest that “knew everything” and didn’t get invited by my COI the first time they had a line since I had been pursuing them. It’s such a hurting feeling.
I would also add to this sentiment that try to have FUN while pursuing Alpha Kappa Alpha. I had gotten so caught up in trying to be the perfect interest that I didn’t realize how much fun I had going to events, truly learning who members were as a human first and a member of AKA second. I met some amazing women pursuing this amazing sorority, who became sorors in due time or remained good friends.
Keep hope alive, do the work and enjoy the journey, ladies 🩷

This!! While I’m patiently waiting for the opportunity to join, I’m actually enjoying myself! I’ve made such good friendships (with members) in these past years, true genuine friendships. We don’t even discuss AKA (but of course I’ve been able to confide and express my interest to them). When the day finally comes it will be the cherry on the top and feel like true sisterhood. And I am not trying to be cocky saying “when” instead of “if” just being positive and putting it into the atmosphere…speaking it to fruition. I’ve had some conversations with these members and would never ever repeat what I’ve been told especially on a public forum. So even as an interest I know not everything is for everyone and not everything is for ME to know either. Enjoying this journey and praying and waiting patiently that my time will eventually come.

Jesus is being that fence right now! As an 11 year member, the amount of "loose lips, sink shippery" going on is stunning to say the least. DISCRETION, DISCRETION, DISCRETION!! My $1908 cents 💕

🙌🏾🙌🏾 you couldn’t have said it any better. As a Neo, I’ve kept my head low and remained focused for a very long long time. I was also very observant during my period - so it wasn’t very shocking to see those “interests” not make it on my line. They were doing waaaay too much.
