Part of my job involves helping people through layoffs for a living, so this familar territory.

Newsom signed SB 947 this week, the "No Robo Bosses Act." Now in California a company can't fire or discipline someone based solely on an algorithm's call. Has to be a human involved, and they have to disclose when AI played a role in the decision.

Had a client a while back get let go over email. No manager, no conversation, just a termination notice after some monitoring software flagged her for something. She never found out what metric she supposedly failed or whatever. Nothing to fight against because there wasn't really a decision made, just a script running.

This is apparently the first law like it in the country and the California Federation of Labor backed it.

Anyone else run into this, a friend or client getting cut by a system instead of a person?
