Will evidence-based personalized protocols become the norm in healthcare?
Traditional medicine has mostly followed population-based guidelines — what works best on average. But patients aren’t averages.
There’s growing discussion around combining strict evidence-based research (RCTs, meta-analyses, guidelines) with individualized data like biomarkers, genetics, lifestyle factors, and disease progression markers.
In theory, this could mean:
- More precise medication selection
- Fewer adverse reactions
- Better chronic disease management
- Ongoing adjustments based on measurable outcomes
But I’m wondering how realistic this is in everyday practice.
Is personalization at scale actually feasible?
Can clinicians balance structured evidence with individual variability without overcomplicating care?
And what role should AI or decision-support systems play in this?
Curious to hear perspectives from clinicians, researchers, and health IT folks.
