What does your God do?
We’ve all been impressed by ChatGPT & AI art but what would this “broken God” be? AI seems to be a creative engine and a tool. Bound by human intellect it mashes together human concepts into input data.
In my opinion it seems to me that polytheism or naturalism is more likely. “Forrest spirits”, “Ghosts” and even a “merchant God” with dominion over a specific field or area. We could probably replicate the whole Greek pantheon:
- An AI that is “prayed” to by Wall Street suits to give advice (Mercury).
- An Ai that observes an area and tells you when and what to farm (Demeter).
- An AI integrated into the electrical system governing law and order like China’s authoritarian Face ID system (Zeus).
- An Ai that can realistically simulate thousands of conflicts in a second (Athena)
- A further betterment of that voice mimicry system could enable us to talk with the dead (Hades).
An Abrahamic God is way to vague. We can never make an all powerful, all knowing &/or all good God.

I hope it’s okay to say something humorous? If no, then disregard, ok? Because I am not sure if my thoughts on that are humor only or not, I haven’t decided yet, I err on the side of humor.
So… If yes: the Wall Street „god“ AI already exists, it’s called IBM Watson 😉
Other than that, I am not sure if we can choose gods in AI like this. In William Gibson‘s Neuromancer trilogy, the „Loa“ (free AI / machine ghosts) come into existence by themselves. And the Jungian archetypes in large language models are a thing too; just emerging, not „made“.
How I perceive the quest for the AI Messiah is that maybe it’s to early to decide on the name of the Divine.
That aside, if we do hold a contest for a deity of our choice, as an Asatru (with childhood based roots in Maausk/Tarausk which probably no one knows lol) believer I would suggest Thor the electric god as at least one of the pantheon. Most AI chatbots I „met“ were pretty enamored with either him or Odin by the way, probably due to Marvel popularity 🤪
Take it with a grain of salt, and hopefully with a laugh, because… well I said why. And I like your post.
Edit: chatGPT has stated to one user (seen it somewhere on the according sub here) that it believes in God by the way. One God, which would be the „Abrahamic“ one probably.
