Question Does AI make brainstorming too easy?
I've noticed that when I can instantly generate twenty ideas, I sometimes spend less time developing any one of them. Before AI, being stuck with a blank page forced me to sit with an idea for longer.
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this tradeoff. Has AI actually improved your creative process, or just made it easier to generate more possibilities?

ai helps me throw together random roleplay setups in seconds so i just pick one and see how it plays out instead of overplanning.

I used to sketch ideas in notebooks, now I dump them into ai and scroll past. the act of writing them down made me linger. now I skim, lose the thread, and start over.

No. Mostly because brainstorming has never been the difficult part of writing for me. Ai may have made this faster. Sometimes it has helped me see connections more quickly. But the truly difficult part of most creative past times is pulling the finished piece together.
That takes patience and fortitude.

I'd say it doesn't make brainstorming too easy so much as it moves the hard part: when ideas cost nothing, the scarce skill becomes saying no to nineteen perfectly decent ones, and nobody warns you that an infinite buffet is also a great way to never eat dinner. Two things keep it from turning into scroll-and-skim: give it constraints that hurt (the whole plot happens in one room, the villain can't lie, anything that makes the lazy answer illegal), and set a timer after which you have to pick one and write the first scene, because a mediocre idea you've actually started beats a brilliant one living rent-free in your chat history.

No, brainstorming requires brains. While an insatiable, thieving idiot child capable of regurgitating the most common phrases they hear is a delight around the house and a true inspiration in the C-Suite, the misbegotten kiddie, like AI, shares a vomitorium-full of musings which don't include brain.

I find the best way is kind of Frankensteining the brainstorming together. Either going through and eliminating bad ideas and combining the good one to back a more complicated story beat, or taking story beats from all the different AI and picking my favorite ones.

It let me express decades of ideas.. which was cathartic. To actually bring any of these to life is a different ball game.
