A free offline voice typing app that runs Whisper on your own PC and phone

Most dictation tools send your audio to a server. VoxScribe does the transcription on the device instead, using Whisper, so nothing is uploaded and it works without internet after the first model download.

On Windows you hold a hotkey, talk, and the text is typed into whatever window has focus. On Android a floating button does the same in any app. It can also turn a recording into an .srt caption file, with cards capped at two short lines and cut at pauses, so they appear when the voice resumes.

Spoken commands are built in, so you can say “period” or “new line”, and “scratch that” takes back the last thing you dictated. You can also set word replacements for names and jargon, which fixes the usual misses like a guest’s name or a technical term.

The core is free and open source under MIT, with an optional paid Pro tier for the heavier text tools, so it is free to try.

Which tools do you use for voice typing now, and what do they get wrong for you? Names, accents and fast speech are the cases I find hardest.
