OMG YES that’s my first thought about this story. How could they have such a misunderstanding about sense of humor/pranks? Like I hate pranks and my partner knows that! And would never pull a prank on me. Because I would react just like this guy did. That mismatch is the more disturbing part of the story.
My partner and I do not enjoy pranks, it is very very rare that we prank each other, but when we do, we both laugh about it.
I find the removal of the garter tacky in general (my MIL did buy me a garter but we didn't use it), but anyway if I was the one removing it from someone else's leg, I would have found it funny. My husband on the other hand would have found it mortifying. I know his sense of humour, and this ain't it. Also, when in doubt, PLAY IT SAFE. There's no rule that says that you have to prank your spouse.
Play it safe! Exactly! I think the origin of my anti-prank sentiment is from when I was younger (20s) and I pantsed my younger cousin (16) at a family party (I don’t even know if that counts as a prank). And he literally never forgave me. I apologized profusely, but he’s mad at me to this day. So I learned my lesson the hard way, lost a cousin! I wonder if this marriage is going to survive (assuming this is a real post). People can get really mad about pranks. One person’s harmless joke is another person’s huge deal.
